''Whistleblower' in White House security clearance office gets suspended"

"Tricia Newbold was suspended less than a week after NBC reported Jared Kushner's top-secret security clearance was approved over staff objections."

WASHINGTON — A White House security specialist has been suspended without pay for defying her supervisor Carl Kline, less than a week after NBC News reported Kline approved Jared Kushner for top secret clearance over the objections of career staff.

The specialist, Tricia Newbold, had filed a discrimination complaint against Kline three months ago.

Newbold's two-week suspension from the White House security office was for failure to supervise, failure to follow instructions and defiance of authority, according to the suspension decision notice obtained by NBC News. Security office chief Crede Bailey first proposed the suspension on Dec. 3, 2018.

Wednesday's notice is signed by Bailey and mentions that in Newbold's 18-year career she has not faced any "prior formal disciplinary action." The document also harshly criticizes Newbold for her "defiance" and notes that Newbold said she would "continue to do what is best for the Executive Office of the President.[/B]"

In the notice, the chief security officer denies that the suspension has anything to do with Newbold's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaint.

Newbold's lawyer, Ed Passman, considers her a whistleblower and said he believes the administrative charges were brought as payback for her decision to file the complaint against Kline.

"It's clearly reprisal for her whistleblowing," Passman said. "[It] has no basis in merit whatsoever."

Newbold told NBC News, "I confidently feel that this is completely unwarranted and I am also confident that I have done nothing wrong, every decision I and my team have made have always been in the best interest of the United States," she said. "There is no compromise of personal identifiable information or sensitive information."

Asked about Newbold's suspension, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said, "We don't comment on personnel issues."

Kline was the subject of an NBC News article last week that revealed he had approved Kushner's top-secret clearance after it was rejected by two career White House security specialists. The pair had made the decision to deny Kushner the clearance after an FBI background check raised concerns about potential foreign influence on him, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News.

In her EEOC complaint, Newbold, who has a rare form of dwarfism, accused Kline of discriminating against her because of her height.

Her complaint states that, in December 2017, Kline moved security files to a new location that were too high and out of her reach. "You have people, have them get you the files you need; or you can ask me," he told Newbold, according to her complaint.

Two sources who did not want to be identified confirmed that Kline had moved files out of Newbold's reach.

How dare this public servant do what is best for the "Executive Office of the President" instead of what is best for Trump personally. That is clearly what Kline wants her do. Anyone who shows anything less than complete fealty and loyalty to 'Herr Leader' is not to be trusted. That is the kind of thinking permeating the West Wing which is more or less been reduced to a bunch of 'yes people' now that most of the "adults" have departed. They don't appreciate that these pubic servants swore an oath to their country and the constitution and not to Mr Trump himself. This mentality is not at all healthy for a democracy And how childish of Kline to deliberately move those security files to a place where it would be impossible for Newbold to reach them. Unfortunately such tactics are not that uncommon for this administration either.

1. What does this have to do with Trump?

2. What does this have to do with Kushner's clearance?

This woman has no business working in a security clearance office. I'm surprised she wasn't fired.

Newbold's suspension from her duties at the White House in the security office was for failure to supervise, failure to follow instructions and defiance of authority as a "security specialist."
She should be happy she only got a two week suspension for a dereliction of duties.

1. What does this have to do with Trump?

2. What does this have to do with Kushner's clearance?

Guess you must have missed this part.

Did you also somehow forget that Jared Kushner is the son in law of President Trump and his closest and perhaps his highest ranking personal adviser? Do you think it proper for Mr Kline to personally overrule 2 senior career specialist and grant Mr Kushner a security clearance that long time security protocols and standards indicate that he should be allowed to possess? Isn't "potential foreign influence" a large part of what Mr Mueller investigating? Don't think that since Mr Kushner is a figure who has been directly associated with many of the events concerning Russia and the Trump campaign/ administration that he is likely at the very least a subject in Mr Mueller's investigation?

Has no business working in a security clearance office? Really? A person who has been working in that security clearance office for nearly 20 years, for multiple administrations, without so much a single smudge on her employment record. Is now somehow unqualified for the job? Why? Because of her "defiance"? Defiance of whom? The personal wishes of Mr Kline to grant the personal wishes of Mr Trump. Even if it involves doing something unethical? They have problems now. Never mind if they had fired her.

Yeah, really!
Silly me, for having a different opinion than a Trump family hater. :doh

Did you read the reasons she was suspended?
Take your angst up with the rule makers. Go ahead, tell them they are wrong for suspending a loose-lip "security specialist".

Of course I read it. Did you? Having an opinion is fine but it is also just as fine for me to question your rationale or basis for that opinion. To me this just one more indication of the potentially dangerous kind of schism that has developed between Trump and our national security professionals. And what exactly do mean by the "rule makers"? As in "rulers"? That doesn't sound very democratic.

I'm sure Kline does a lot of things in the course of his job. What does any of that have to do with the lady who got suspended?

Seems to me you are making connections that don't exist.

You've already questioned me...and I answered.
You simply are clueless as to why this woman earned herself a deserved suspension. She betrayed the trust of her office.
Are you done here yet?

And on top of that Kline has been discriminating against her for her dwarfism. Putting files and boxes she needs to perform her duties up high and telling her to ask him to get them for her.

Rage is what I feel about this. Yeah, Rage, that's the emotion.

That's a pretty cruel thing to do to someone with dwarfism.

Kline sounds like a jerkoff.

I admit I'm a jerk because I laughed.

Sounded like a Seinfeld episode to me.

Seems to me you are making connections that don't exist.

Seems to me that Mr Kline having overruled two senior national security professionals to grant Mr Kushner a security clearance that he should not have because of his susceptibility to foreign influences, while simultaneously being a subject in a federal investigation looking into foreign influences on our election while also serving as advisor to his President father in-law, who also a subject of that same investigation, and who also had a counter-intelligence investigation opened upon him, fails to raise any red flags with you. Gee, I wonder why.

Its kinda of Funny..... Im trying to understand this.

Im thinking Ala, Sally Yates. A Direct order is given to you by the POTUS, you refuse to issue the order. You are fired..

NBC did a report, Now I am assuming since NBC did a report that means the Tricia may be the source of the report. THIS is NOT whisleblowing this is Leaking information to the press.

THERE ARE Whistle blowing protocols that PROTECTS whistle blowers. It seems she DID NOT follow this chain of command or METHOD to probably "Whistleblow"

Secondly from the report

Newbold's two-week suspension from the White House security office was for failure to supervise, failure to follow instructions and defiance of authority,

Seems like Newbold, "Failed to supervise, Failed to follow instruction and Deified Authority"

Couple things that bother me as well.

1) We do NOT know if this in fact is tied together or has ANYTHING to do with Kushner, let alone Trump, ONLY that she was involved in in Security Clearances.
2) There is an EEO Claim AGAINST Newbolds Supervisor for discrimination based on her dwarfism.... Talk about finding anything to report negative on Trump (Soon the EEOC will blame trump for the dwarfism discrimination)
3) Just because she worked for 18 years in her position under a different administration does not mean she didnt leak info or intentional leak info to NBC during her tenure.

What this has to do with Kushner, let along Trump..... "Witch Hunt" yet again........ anything to report negative unrelated news and tie trump in their I swear its the Kevin Bacon game....Now its the Trump game..... 5 news reports or less that it was TRUMP.....

Anyways.....Remember "Reality Winner" Yea Arrested for LEAKING yet she was touted as a whistle-blower, NO she did it NOT in the protect manner. She went to the press, not her supervisor or her congressman

Who is the person who makes the final decision? The specialists like the one who was suspended, or someone above them?

Hey Tres!!! Happy new Years?

So why are we inserting Kushner and Trump in the news report? "after NBC reported Jared kushner....."

Its a EEOC claim against Kline, Newsbold's Supervisor for discrimination.

Actually my prior post is inaccurate then. IT HAS NOTHING to do with Kushner report, its seemingly reprisal for an accusation of discriminations, THEN a EEOC complaint against the accused, then a reprisal suspension for the EEOC. What does Kushner and Trump have ANYTHING to do with this now?

Happy New Year. I'm not sure why you quoted me and asked about Kushner and Trump. I didn't say anything about either one of them.

LOL! I'm just getting started. How did she earn herself a suspension? By doing her job? By applying the same security clearance standards to Mr Kushner as she has applied to everyone else for the past near 20 years? And bear in mind she wasn't the only one to do so. Who's trust did she betray? Mr Kline's? Mr Trump's? Both? Certainly not the American people's.

So...instead of talking about the "whistleblower"...which happens to be the topic of this thread...you, like the OP and his stupid article, want to make this about...what...Trump/Russia?

Trump lives in your brain, doesn't he?

Impotent and unnecessary dominance rituals. That is the very essence of the Trump admin.

Right wingers went nuts because Hillary used an unsecured server. Threw a fit, lock her up. Meanwhile in the Trump administration, not only are they using unsecured phones and servers, they have family members getting access to white house wqithout clearance, and probably his biggest adviser who was denied security clearance due to potential influence of foreign powers. The exact thing this administration is being accused of.

And the right wingers will defend this. Just showing they have zero credibility what so ever and we should all just tell them to go pound sand

He probably already has a Secret clearance.

Happy New Year. I'm not sure why you quoted me and asked about Kushner and Trump. I didn't say anything about either one of them.

Sorry I was quoting your bolded point and trying to edify the actual news (Women accused of discrimination against a Dwarf, EEOC filing, then reprisal of suspecion) , rather than the implied news by others that somehow its connected to Trump and Kushner.....

Huh, this is solely about Trump. Kushner is his son in law, involved with his ccampaign, and he was denied clearance due to concerns over foreign influence (Umm, Mueller probe anybody?) yet he was overturned. You telling me it wasn't because of Trump?
