At this point I seriously don't get why he bothers with the charade. Maybe the Verkhovna Rada should just make him dictator for life. It makes perfect sense. Martial Law means job security for both Parliament and the Duce. Why hold elections when Martial Law is a better guarantor of job security and continuity?

It's a straight forward process. The Duce issues a Decree extending Martial Law for 90 days and the kangaroo Parliament goes through the motions of approval. All done in timely fashion. The expiry of present Martial Law is August 7th 2025. The 90 day extension goes till November 5th 2025. Then the baboons of the Verkhovna Rada go through the motions again! Why not rest the issue for once and for all by making him dictator for life? If the nobody Julius Caesar did it why not the great Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelensky??? Maybe the possibility of a Brutus worries the Duce? The Duce has nothing to fear from any Brutuses. Thanks to the goons of the Ukrainian KGB ably led by the 400lb Lt Gen Vasyl Vasyliovych Malyuk. The frightful Malyuk makes Stalin's Lavrenty Beria look like Mother Theresa.

And Putin still can't take Ukraine. Busy defenestrating dissidents, I guess.

Yawn. Get back to us with your disingenuous "dictatorship" claims once a war is no longer the gorilla in the room.

More importantly, how is Ukraine supposed to even run elections? A huge part of Ukraine is currently occupied making that more or less impossible (particularly since Russia is a totalitarian dictatorship with some of the most severe levels of censorship in the history of humanity). If Juin is so, so worried about the democratic process in Ukraine, shouldn't he be in favor of giving Ukraine the H-bomb so they can de-occupy their lands and run an election?

@Juin posts unserious snipes at Ukraine and cheers like a schoolgirl any time there's news that's positive for Russia or negative for Ukraine. It must be torture for him not living right across the street from the Kremlyn where he can crawl into bed with Putin every night.

What do you mean by Zelensky having done it? I think you're confusing Ukraine with Russia. Ukraine actually has branches of government. Russia has highly compensated yes-button-pushers.

[shrug] The Ukrainian Duce signed a Decree extending his dicatorship another 90 days. His Kangaroo Parliament approved it. Are you disputing that?

The gorilla will remain in the room for the remainder of the decade. Trump, whether he likes it or not, will not be able to stop the war. Ukraine/Eu and Russia appear to be very much full of fight. What that means is Zelensky's dictatorship is secure at least till 2028.

The US held elections during the Civil War. The US also conducted elections under far more dangerous conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan

A huge part of the US was outside the control of the US during the Civil War. Elections were not abolished like in Ukraine

OK

Everyone repeat after me: SLAVA ZELENSKY!.

Is Russia still invading Ukraine?

Lets see...yes.

Well that was easy.

One man's invader is another man's liberator. There are two kinds of folks in Ukraine: the ones being invaded by the Russian Federation and the ones being liberated by the Russian Federation. The former are to the west of Ukraine and have St Stepan Bandera as Patron Saint.

And what is that supposed to mean? What does that have to do with martial law?

This is what you asked:

Is Russia still invading Ukraine?

Russia is invader or liberator in Ukraine depends on whether it is the majority ethnic Ukrainians to the west, or minority ethnic Russians in Donbass and Crimea

And you'll never know who is who because Putin doesn't want you to know.

Putin won't call a ceasefire so there won't be any elections at all. If you want an election, tell Putin to put down the gun.

The local populations were able to hold elections because the US & allies provided security.

Ukraine does not have that luxury. All it's troops are on the frontlines & can't be spared to provide security for polling places.

So unless you are advocating for allowing NATO troops to enter Ukraine to assist...

Annnnnnnd DRINK!

And you'll never know who is who because Putin doesn't want you to know.

The ethnic divide in Ukraine goes back as far as Tsarist Russia; centuries before Putin was born. The ethnic issues was widely covered by western media during the 2014 coup. Blaming everything on Putin is escapism

I am only pointing out that that makes Zelensky a dictator.

When elections were held in Iraq the Sunni insurgency was in full bloom. Iraq was a thousand times more insecure than Ukraine is

A few miles from the front Ukraine is quite safe

Putin doesn't want you to know because then people get to choose. He won't be able to control what people vote for. We'll never know how many people want to be annexed to Russia because Putin chooses war instead.

How is this war about self determination but he won't even let them vote?

I am only pointing out that that makes Zelensky a dictator.

He's not a dictator. Why would you care whether or not Zelensky is a dictator if you're defending Putin all the time? For Putin, "dictator" is a complement but for Zelensky it's perjorative?

No. Dictator is accurate for Putin and slander if talking about about Zelensky.

What has that got anything to do with the ethnic divide in Ukraine?

Well, I recall you passed off a coup as abdication ?
