Which is worse? Being a political partisan and being proud about it or lying about it?

Is being unapologetically partisan worse than pretending to be non-partisan?

Don't kid yourself. Trump won because he rode a wave of irrationality that eight years built, he appealed to the easily manipulated, and his opposition was Hillary Clinton. Any other Republican would have beaten Clinton and any other Democrat would have beaten Trump. Both were losers.

Why does one of those need to be worse than the other? Being the former, by my reckoning, damn near always requires one sooner or later do the latter. The question almost strikes me as one of "chickens and eggs."
