Name one gun law that has ever stopped a crime involving a gun from being committed. Name one offense that a gun law could prevent. Any offense you want to consider and any gun law you want to make. Let's hear 'em.

The 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution. Is the only law that has ever directly affected crime.

Its not the ones that have been passed, its all the ones that are going to fix the problem in the future. Its the liberal way.

The "put down your gun or I shoot" law.

There are no such statistics. Impossible to collect.

For a person who's never owned a gun before? I'm betting that 3-day waiting periods have saved some lives. 'Course a die hard would never want to admit it, but I'm sure it's happened.

What about part 2 of the question; "Name one offense that a gun law could prevent. Any offense you want to consider and any gun law you want to make. Let's hear 'em."

Jon, laws don't prevent crime. They delineate what's a crime and punish for it.

Now. What about your response to my answer to the first part? ;)

I think if someone wanted to kill someone and could not get a gun for three days he would use a hammer instead. Which is why there are so many hammer killings. maybe we should have a 3 day waiting period for hammers.

On point and on target prove to me that if we hadn't invaded Iraq that saddam wouldn't have handed off WMD's or enabled al queda to train and have shelter in his country to which they'd continue to kill thousands of Americans. You are asking prove a negative - not going to happen.

Then if it cant be proven, what makes me a die hard when I call the waiting period worthless.
In Florida, there is a wait period for hand guns only. I could do alot of damage with a shotgun that I can walk in and take home within a half hour.

I don't know why I even bother. I should just pass these threads on by . . . it would seem that many even responsible gun owners think there should be absolutely no regulation or restriction on the purchase or ownership of guns. Any size. Any caliber. Up to and including military weaponry. I think it's nutz. And I disagree.

It's hopeless to argue with people such as your very fine selves. Our twains shall never meet.

Sorry we just happen to agree with the constitution.

Then you should avoid the threads.

What limits would you like to see against freedom of speech?

We have limits on freedom of speech. Try heckling the President during his State of the Union Address. Try talking about or releasing classified information. Try shouting in the Rotunda for hours on end. Try screaming fire in a crowded concert venue.

National Constitutional Carry, national Castle Doctrine, and the elimination of nearly all gun-free zones.

If a punk tries a forcible felony, he can be killed, which prevents re-offence.

Ah, I see that you like all rights to be reduced in effectiveness.

Understood.

Please know this is just the very radical extremist. The permiate every thread with the 2nd amendment doesn't allow for restrictions. They can't comprehend anything else and sadly they make gun advocates look silly, irrational and at worst dangerous. I am sure some of them are plants from the anti gun radical socialist movement just to make stupid extreme pro gun arguments so they can lable the pro gun community "nuts" and "crazy."

I'm as pro gun as anyone, 100% in favor of gun rights, but I don't mind them making someone who does not own a gun (or isn't willing to prove as much) wait 3-5 or even 10 days so they don't take it from the dealer, sit in their car and blow their heads off or worse kill someone else. I am 100% opposed to violent felons having their gun rights restored - but listen to this group and they'll demand that spot in the costitution that says we can ban them. I oppose 10 round magazine limits, and I oppose the current limit to 200,000 federal stamps for class 3 weapons, but I don't disagree wtih that regulation - they just need to issue more stamps to equate with demand (not one stamped Class 3 weapon has been used in a crime in 40 years or more.

I suppose you think that's an effective reply. It's not.

Rights are granted. They are not absolute. We have the right to free speech; within limits. We have the right to assemble; within limits. We have the right to vote within limits; we have the right to bear arms; within limits. Nowhere in any of these amendments does it say "within limits" -- and yet, there it is.

Thank you, CalGun. It's nice to know there are others who think the same way I do about gun rights. Appreciate your post.

There have been many psychological and criminological studies done showing the average time for blind rage is about 20 minutes. By the time a person has driven to the gun store, looked at available models, and filled out the paperwork they have calmed down, I don't see how it takes two or three days to further benefit from that. Frankly, I'm not willing to empower any level of government to further inhibit gun rights, especially since the tactical and technical details are far beyond their understanding.

Honestly, I'm ready to call for a full pull back of laws from all levels of government, repealing the NFA, the GCA, Brady, etc. unless the federal, state, and local governments can give an airtight, and I mean no discussion or disagreement possible justification of why they should be allowed to keep that authority.

My comment was more than sufficient.

Diluted rights represent restricted permission.

I guess SYG law worked, unless someone can point to Treyvon committing a gun crime in the future.
