Where will we get accurate data on inflation, jobs, etc. now that Trump will make the BLS political?

Trump made the message loud and clear today: he will not tolerate bad data about the economy from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Anyone who takes the job as new commissioner knows that they will be fired if they don't report data that is pleasing to Trump.

I guess for jobs we can look to ADP, though they only cover private sector employment.

But what about inflation, cpi, etc.? I supposed the Federal Reserve Bank can cover that to some extent. We can't really rust the Bureau of Economic Analysis anymore either since they are a government organization and Trump can fire the head of the BEA if he doesn't like their numbers either.

So are we basically screwed until Trump leaves office, or will there be viable alternative reports for vital data on the economy?

This is the second type of massive revision in a year. Someone should be fired.
 
This doesn’t surprise me. You really can’t believe anything coming out of the Trump administration. As for the stats, only a few political junkies pay any attention to them. For the average American, all it takes is a trip to the grocery store to let them know everything they need to know about the economy.

They were corruptly pretending the economy under Trump was generating more jobs than it actually was?

I agree it would have been nice to know in real-time that hiring ground to a halt under Trump a few months ago, but I find it hard to believe Trump feels the same way.

Yep, BLS data will soon be unreliable.

I'm wondering if Wall Street and other big businesses will pitch a fit over it, since they need reliable numbers... and already got their big tax break.

Maybe Democrats can launch investigations into BLS if they win back Congress. Maybe.

Most of those data get revised repeatedly. Remember those exact counts - they[re the result of formula and estimations, and these day I suspect some AI Macinations.

Trump acted on impulse, and he made a very serious mistake.

He proved to the world that--when it comes to the global economy -- the United States can no longer be trusted. The President informed the world that economic statistics were manipulated for political reasons.

Commies don't usually reduce bureaucracy, eliminate obsolete. or redundant regulations and work to lower taxes.
