The view inside the vault.
I am pleased to be able to inform you at least in part of the good news as I see it.

When ever you spend money on sales, income, or any other tax it goes to a wonderful place where the sky is always blue and and everyone present always has a mile on theirs face and pure joy in their hearts.

When your money arrives regardless of the amount it is counted and the total is checked against a giant book with a dark blue cover with in inscription on the cover in pure gold that reads Did they give enough?

Once counted and checked against what they wanted from you, your money is taken to this huge double door where once inside you get the feeling this is a vast vault and you can see a mist that permeates the atmosphere and restricts seeing past a few feet. Your money is placed on a blue velvet covered shelf and as it is placed there and as you watch it magically and mysteriously fades into invisibility never to be seen again.

Then the clerk who put it in the vault goes over to another very large book only this one is bright red and it is written on the cover wish list where the total of your taxes in now listed.

And that is a detailed account of your tax money, in the world as we know it today.

Yes, councilman, those government employees are paid in imaginary dollars that they don't actually use to buy food, cars, or televisions.

Did Councilman say anything bad about government employees?

Did Councilman say anything bad about government employees?
He said tax dollars evaporate and go to heaven or something.

edit: I think.

The OP isn't actually a representation of where our tax dollars go, it's a representation of where the $1.4T of our tax dollars that the author labels "discretionary" goes. The actual budget is $3.5T.

Right.

There are two types of government spending — discretionary and mandatory. Discretionary spending, which accounts for roughly one-third of all Federal spending, includes money for things like the Army, FBI, the Coast Guard, and highway projects. Congress explicitly determines how much to spend ... on these programs on an annual basis. Mandatory spending accounts for two-thirds of all government spending. This kind of spending is authorized by permanent laws.
