Where do they grow these people? (1 Viewer)

What is it with charging very young children with felonies. She was probably a poorly behaved kid that had a tantrum and kicked a teacher. Was that teacher seriously injured, not everything needs to go before the courts. Let alone lock a six year old up in juvinal detention away from her parents for hours on end. What happened to the school and then parent punishing children this young when they act out.

Sad

it really is sad especially considering

she suffers from behavioral problems and attends a special class at Lely Elementary in Naples

She has behavorial problems, so let's make her situation complete by adding an arrest to her short life?
Behavorial problems are treatable; there are therapists who specialize in that area and, having used them, know they can be quite successful in changing a child's reactions to everyday stresses and occurences.
I have to blame the mother somewhat for not seeking out help outside of the school system; I don't understand the thought of some that school systems will 'cure' their kids. I do think the school admin overreacted by having this 6 year old placed under arrest.
About a year ago there was a video of a kindergartner misbehaving in class, and the teacher saying in singsong "Please don't do that"-never once approaching her, raising her voice or showing ANY authority whatsoever, then they have the kid arrested, complete with handcuffs. Talk about a WTF moment. Show a kid you mean business when it comes to not tolerating outlandish negative behavior and most times it won't come down to calling in the police. I've dealt with some real doozies, including one prone to violence and not once have I ever had to resort to any more than a very stern "Knock it off NOW".

that really depends on how deeply rooted the problem is. some behavior problems simply are not treatable no matter how much therapy the child is put through. their brain chemistry is permanently changed as a result of abuse.
