If you're not looking for the common definition of the word, then please define "define".
Depends. A lot of ways of looking at reincarnation, including my own, tend to belief in a period where the soul and spirit retreats from the physical, mental and etheral "bodies" to "recoup" if you will and then finally the spirit even withdraws from the soul and to put it simply "recoups" until it draws unto itself the materials for the next incarnation.

I'm not well informed in the areas of reincarnation but isn't this belief on where you start small, insect or something, and work your way up to a human?
