Where are the socialists

I'm a Communist, if that's close enough. There are others, Kelzie is a Democratic Socialist, and Finn MacCool I think considers himself one now too. There were many others, but a majority have left.

I'm not really a socialist. I'm more of a social democrat, which takes the good things about capitialism and socialism and puts them together while throwing out the bad.

sure, no sparing me huh?

here I was nice enough to allow you survive in the capitalist world..

I'm not a Socialist, but one of my friends is.

I'm a socialism and I think you can see the subject out of three variables.

Capitalism Anti-Capitalism, If you would like to still have a capitalistic system or not
Elitistic-Democratic If you would like a elite to lead the society into socialism and communism and also dislike democracy or you want a democratic organisation and use democratic means.
Radical-Pragmatic Basicly how fast you want to change the society
There this variables is indipendent of eacheter even if people choosing a elitistic approach useally are anti capitalistic and radical. Therefore have giving a really bad name for other radicals and anti-capitalism.

I personally think a socialist you need to be anti-capitalist and for democracy. But I have no problem working with people and support people that belive in capitalism so long they work against the bad parts of capitalism. Because even if I think it is cool to be a radical, you have to be pragmatic in todays capitalistic world if you want to do some real changes. But of course that doesn't mean you should give up you ideals.

I can tell you where you won't find a socialist. Actually, you won't find any Marxists, Liberals, Feminists, Pacifists, Socialists, Communists, Tree Huggers, Environmentalists, P.E.T.A., ACLU, NAALCP, Anti-American people at the Stormfront (White Pride) website headed by David Duke and company.

Fun fact: did you know that adam smith considered the capitalism he described in "wealth of nations" imoral, nevetheless he considered the benefits to outweight the losses.

a few things came to mind

I know you where jokeing but its intresting that people associate social revolution with mass murder when if you look at chile for example there social revolution was fairly peaceful untill pinochet and his capatalist junta started mass murdering people.

If you like socialist ideas why are you such a die hard capatalist? If i was sympathetic to socialism but belived it to be unworkable for some reason i would support left-liberalism or something.

When you mentioned brittish loyalists in your posts did you mean unionists? If so why is that such a bad thing

And also bringing in more bad.

Thats why I don't consider myself a socialist cause I'm not exactly anti capitalist. I was actually sorta torn between moderate anarchism and socialism and I kinda settled on the extreme moderate form of socialism because I found it both realistic and satisfactory in terms of, not eliminating, but reducing problems such as poverty and war.

Nice! Something debatable! Now please go into specifics.

Well, I assume you're advocating a more western European model of capitalism (e.g. universal health care, higher minimum wage, etc.)
Unemployment in these countries has always been consistently higher and economic growth tends to be much lower than in the United States.

An example would be higher minimum wages, a policy that forces businesses to pay more money to workers which inevitably leades to one of 3 economically negative effects:

1) Higher prices
2) Cutting jobs
3) Slashing benefits to existing jobs

Oh yes, Red Dave is a socialist too.

That depends how you define socialism. I am a socialist in the sence that i belive the workers need to take control over the means of production and power but that could mean anything from comunism to anarco-syndicalism. So to those who have a more detailed view of what socialism is i perhaps wouldnt be a socialist.

I used to suporrt nationalisation and such but after studying how it worked out in the uk during the post war period in more detail it seams very ineffective. This is because the nationalised industrys ran and a loss rather than a profit thus costing way to much to be sustainable . After reading some Chomsky ive started to look into libertarian socialism , anarco-syndicalsim e.t.c so im effectivly sat on the fence, the fence being somewhere on the far left.

What im definatly against though is Leninsim as i dont see how working people can control the means of production and power under an authortarian dictator. If anything socialists should be pushing for a directly democratic system along the lines of the swiss one [see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_democracy#Direct_democracy_in_Switzerland ] rather than a dictatorship

Oh, so you're a Nazi, too?

I think it depend son what you mean by "socialist." I support government interevention, regulation, and social programmes. Does that a socialist make?

Socialism is a flawed theory. It hasn't worked in the past and won't work in the future.

It's not an opinion. It's a fact. The fact that they are flawed is shown by their inability to stay in power for a prolonged period of time without major changes. Communism relies on human infability. Obviously, the world is far from completly honest. The entire theory of communism is built on this wishful thinking that everyone will commune and do as they are told to. People don't. Communism just doesn't work
