From Wikipedia here: The Failure of American Public Education

Excerpt:
The history of reform efforts in American public education is replete with half-hearted measures, with almost comical mis-diagnoses of education problems, with blame-shifting, and with humbug. Everyone is an expert (most have, of course, suffered through the very system they want to reform).

At any one time during the course of school reform, an illusion of debate often obscures a surprising consensus on the heralded “magic bullet” of the decade—be it school centralization or progressive education or preschool education or computerizing the classroom—that will solve America’s education problems. These magic bullets always misfire.

This article is well worth the read for those who understand and desire that the future of America's democracy is a matter of a correct education of our children. If we fail in that challenge, we have nobody to blame but ourselves for the consequences. Because the key-consequence is both misinformation and the kind that is abusively warped due to a "lack of verifiable foundational source".

Let's not forget that the proper education of our children (from kindergarten to post-secondary schooling) is the key-cornerstone to both our democracy and our economic well-being. (Both should be available free, gratis and for nothing particularly to the needy.)

MY POV

And it's about time we looked back into our foundational-history as a republic to question errors such as the Electoral College that was intended at its time (early 19th century) to "balance political viewpoints" amongst states of highly different populations (large, small, rich, not so rich).

Those criterias may still exist to a certain extent, but our ability to seek and find "information sources" that help electors define their voting-opinion are not those of the early 19th century. They are today far wider and more relevant nationally than simply statewide.

Why's that an important consideration? Because a law is not something that needs to last forever - unless we are talking about Criminal Law. The law-in-question is a Constitutional-amendment (see here) that was passed at the very beginning of the 19th century when the country was barely a decade-old! It was this amendment that created the Electoral College, which is the present major FAULT in our presidential elections.

Five-times in American history the EC-vote has denied We-the-people the right to select our president directly by the Popular Vote. Instead the vote of the Electoral College still decides the final vote and has historically done so - but wrongly five times and the last one in 2016.

Which is wholly unacceptable given that the peoples' Popular-vote worldwide is the predominant designated-device determining the Head-of-state in developed countries ...
