Trump official: Statue of Liberty poem refers to Europeans
Okay, so people are going well out of their way to make something about race, that apparently wasn't important enough to talk about, until now?
Is there even a reasonable conversation to be had here, or is it going to be the usual posters crying "orange man bad" and "He's basically Hitler" all over again?
Cuccinelli, (good old ‘Merican family name,) ought to keep some things to himself. He was all prepared when they first asked him about the inscription on the SoL tablets, then he let his mouth get away from him or he didn’t. You think the Administration is trolling, naming Ken as acting whatever at the Immigration Dept?
No, I think someone wanted the position and they got it.
This is just blowing hot air at this point. There is nothing pertinent to an actual discussion here, other then the fact that we now have people coming into the country from more places than just Europe.
Yet I'm not going to be so racist, as to suggest that only whites come from Europe.
How much racist are you going to be? You are as bad as Ken, stumbling all over what you want to say and trying not to strike the wrong note. To Cuccinelli’s defense, he was on camera and live, not behind a keyboard, able to look at his words before hitting ‘quick reply.’ It’s not called the European Statue of Liberty. You were the one who went to default defense defending Trump against Hitler comparisons that weren’t in the OP.
“This administration finally admitted what we’ve known all along: They think the Statue of Liberty only applies to white people,” tweeted former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, a Democratic presidential candidate.
Even though the link in the OP was trying to bridge into saying that this policy is possibly racist?
You do realize that the people who keep batting against this, are the same people who believe almost every poor country is a non-white county?
News flash for the topic, but the policy that is being given the run around here is a merit based one, and not even that hard of one. So long as you don't go for almost a whole year receiving government aid, you'll be fine. Hell, we don't even know yet if ay of those aid packages will be excluded from such a program anyway, and people are doing the usual. Coming out of the woodwork to claim "racism, white-nationalism" or some other crap like that.
Here, from the piece.
What the **** is this about then?
This is the kind of **** that make the journalism like this, a continuous laughing stock.
The writer didn't kick back at such a presumption and just let it go without challenging it.
You won’t get any argument from me as to the immigration issue facing the US. My problem is the ham-fisted way it is being dealt with. You can’t argue, on one hand, that unemployment is at historic lows and then turn around and argue ‘they’re taking our jobs.’ There is a reason that Cuccinelli failed in his bid for Virginia Governor.
What are some examples of poor white countries?
I have no idea what you mean by the paragraph that begins, ‘News Flash?’
The amount of blowback this got was unnecessary in my opinion.Citizenship and Immigration Services, came a day after the Trump administration announced it would seek to deny green cards to migrants who seek Medicaid, food stamps, housing vouchers or other forms of public assistance. The move — and Cuccinelli’s defense — prompted an outcry from Democrats and immigration advocates who said the policy would favor wealthier immigrants and disadvantage those from poorer countries in Latin America and Africa.
Why would we let people in this country who just go on the welfare dole? Seems pretty ****ing suicidal and stupid to me.
Immigration should be merit based.

Can you imagine what would happen to the USA if we let people come here for economic reasons? Where would we be today if we had allowed that type of thing in the past encouraging poor people to immigrate here?

Poor isn't the point. It's if you can work, and support yourself.
Not continually being a drain on government services.
90 percent of us wouldn't be here if we restricted immigration to the cream of the crop.

Did the man say those things or not?
Tell that to the tens of millions of economically desperate people who helped build this nation.
Yes, economically desperate. But they worked, they earned, they helped build this country up into what it is today.
Not drop into the country and start drawing in government assistance.

All four of my grandparents came here without but a few dollars in their pockets and no education and no job skills and no promise of any job. Today, under the new grand plan for immigration, they would not be welcome.
And that is disgusting.
