It makes sense eventually say 40 years time maybe sooner alternative technologies and method of making energy will drop the relience on oil dramatically when this happens the middle east will pretty much fall apart except countries like dubai.

Therefor isnt one of the west best weapons against terrorism the investment in R and D of these fuels and technologies and is enough being done to do so.

Re: When alternative fuels become avalable

There is actually a lot more research and also development being done than you realize. I've studied BioDiesel recently and the mechanics behind how this and similar alternative fuels are made and implemented. Using BioDiesel as an example, there are entire fuel stations that only serve BioDiesel located in many parts of the US(mostly California). Most(but not all) fairly new cars with diesel engines can handle BioDiesel. This is not a significant population but again, I'm only using it as an example because I know about it.

If we didn't need the oil we wouldn't care if they killed each other in the Middle East. You never hear the White House talking about what's going on in Burma. No oil to speak of there, from what I know.

Re: When alternative fuels become avalable

Any alternative fuels that I know of still rely on oil, just not nearly as much. We'll still need oil from somewhere.
