[Quoting myself from another source:]

"We're bombarded with all manner of 'news' these days. Some is the simple 'Who, what, when and where' of traditional news reportage, but in much of it, 'why' slips in or, worse yet, the facts of the 4 W's are wrong.

"Some of us have sought out fact-checking sites on the 'net to shortcut the process of separating news wheat from chaff. Now, however, we may have to deal with false 'fact-checking' sites.

"We may soon need a meta-checker site to distinguish false news checker sites from true news checker sites.

"Wheels within wheels, no?"

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

🤷

Hi, Rexedgar!

For openers, there's how we can go about deciding what's 'fake'.

Then there's the possible ethical responsibility of 'net platforms.

There's the evergreen 'free society' discussion of whether the free market of ideas can self-police or whether we, the people, acting in concert as the government, should take a hand.

But wait . . . there's more, too.

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

Hi, Gateman_Wen.

The Russians are just getting started with this, setting up sites as I type. The whole thing's as new as tomorrow. Also see my response to Rexedgar, directly above.

Just like the POTUS said yesterday regarding facial coverings, “that’s up to them.”

With propaganda being so prevalent, it is up to the consumer to sort and categorize.

Some facts are obviously facts and others are conjecture. Until we can determine what ACTUALLY happened, we must try to interpret what we can actually see.

We are forced to ask this question:

"If this is true, what else must be true?"

The problem in this is often, though, determining that base fact that we know to be true. If what we accept as truth is actually a lie, then our conclusion(s) will necessarily be wrong.

Hi, code 1211.

Unless I've taken a wrong turn somewhere in my thinking, one of the bedrock necessities for a functional democracy is an informed public. Thus, the ability to sift out that which is relevant and true from the rest is important. A political discussion based upon falsehoods is of no value as far as advancing the well-being of a people is concerned.

With more and more people turning to the 'net for their news, the problem of fake fact-checker sites is not inconsequential. Thus, my concern.

Hi again, Rexedgar.

'Them', in this case, is us, the American public and, within that, the subset of voters.

Am I off-base in being concerned that some of my fellow citizens might not critically evaluate their sources of information?

Covid 19 is a case study of misinformation, lies, propaganda and thought control.

The lies were easy to spot, but the drive to eliminate anyone and anything that opposed the right-think was powerful.

In JUNE of 2020 it was obvious to EVERYONE that children age 19 and younger were not threatened by Covid-19.

Still, the schools were closed.

Hi, code1211.

I've not taken time to verify the number of cases and deaths among schoolchildren up to that date, but I rather doubt it was zero. The possibility of a highly infectious disease being spread among children at school and subsequently given to people at home who had a high risk of serious effects, including death, might have been part of the calculus of decision, though.

What was that Commandment?
'Thou shall not resist the leftist COVID based power grab' ?

Or was the Commandment 'Thou shall not contradict what the leftists declare as the science' ?

All sort of 'Ministry of Truth' stuff.
