What's wrong with open Borders?

I just don't see why this wouldn't work.

I support opening of the borders of the United States; in other words, anyone can become a legal resident as soon as they arrive just by registering with the immigration agency.
The United States is a vast country, there is so much land that is almost uninhabited. We have the 12th lowest real population density of any country, so feeding immigrants wouldn't be a problem. Most immigrants either do menial jobs that almost no native-born US citizens will do, such as working in meat packing plants or in pesticide-soaked fields for miniscule wages, or have skills that are in such high demand that opening the borders wouldn't cause a significant problem for native-born citizens, such as computer science and medical jobs.

Finally, the United States, and other colonial powers like the UK, France and Japan, have an ethical responsibility to try to make up for the injustices they have done to developing nations. In addition to committing genocide against the indigenous peoples of this land, in this hemisphere alone the United States: overthrew a social democratic government in Guatemala because it was having success with land reform; subjected the Sandanista government in Nicaragua to right-wing Contra rebels; overthrew via the CIA the democratically-elected Salvador Allende in a coup in Chile because of his democratic socialist polices; and son on and so forth. Let us also not forget the damage done in Africa, not just with the Slave Holocaust, but also with the overthrowing of leaders such as Patrice Lamumba in favour of criminal thugs such as Mobutu Sese Seko.

Therefore, I think open borders should stop being just a snarl word and be taken seriously as a mainstream immigration policy position.

You will need to change the laws..

I'm for open borders, always have been. But, it needs to be global. I may burn my passport in protest. ok, probably not.

Those were 2 examples not the only ones.

The claim went : "every other nation also shoots people before they are tried for a crime"

Two are not every.

And there are plenty of nations that do not people before they are tried for a crime.

FALSE GLOBAL CLAIM.

Unlike you I have a life and a job

Engaging in IGNORANT ASSUMPTIONS.

I have both.

The case for immigration

Can rich countries accept migrants without jeopardising their democracies?

...

Advocates of entirely open borders tend to advance two types of arguments. The first is economic. Opening all borders would make the world instantly richer. Some believe that it could double the world’s GDP. That is because workers become more productive as they move from a poor country to a rich one. They join a labour market with ample capital, efficient firms and a predictable legal system. If they are service workers, they will find richer and better-paying clients. By some estimates, more than two-thirds of a person’s overall wealth is determined by where they live and work.

The second argument for open borders is a moral one. Where someone is born is entirely a matter of chance, so there is no moral justification for compelling people to stay in a poor country. By the same token, those lucky enough to have been born in rich countries have no right to exclude others from their good fortune. Opponents of open borders are not convinced by either of those arguments. Even if the world as a whole were to grow richer thanks to open borders, they say, poorer people in the migrants’ destination countries would suffer. The new arrivals would depress their wages and compete with them for resources such as social housing and unemployment benefits. The welfare states that Western democracies have painstakingly built over the past few decades would collapse under the task of absorbing millions of people ill-suited to local labour markets. Cultural conflicts between natives and immigrants would before long cause violent clashes, threatening social stability.

Very few countries have innocent till proven guilty rules...you are required to prove your innocence and not provided legal assistance. Police can shoot you for very little reason, even in the US

America needs to return to the Founders vision of open borders, a country for all to come to and earn wealth, led by an educated and limited citizenry.

I have also always wanted to live in Colorado... I loved Breckenridge and Durango... NorCal would not be bad to move back to either...

Don't forget owning slaves, murdering the Native Americans and not allowing women to vote...

Open borders was one of the few things the Founders did that wasn't racist. And immigration laws in the US have always been racist. The very first ones targeted Chinese immigrants.

Breck has snow 9 months of the year...I have land not far away from there, but I don't live in Colorado...the weather is horrible, blizzards, tornados and fires

yes, before they are tried. If you have ever lived in Central America...Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras or Guatemala...you would know what I am referring to...but of course you are myopic.

Still not anywhere near every.... But if you keep going you might get to 10%

Have you ever heard of the coronavirus virus, Covid-19? Their idiot president (cartel leader) is telling everyone in the country to spread the coronavirus as fast as possible and not to adhere to any practical advice given by medical doctors. And you want them to come to our country unchecked? You sound ridiculous. Even the globalist, socialist EU is shutting down their borders, tear gassing, and water cannoning peaceful refugees and building walls to keep others out now. The world has learned the problems with opening borders to crazy people. Which by the way, you can't even find a main stream media outlet that will even talk about it now because they too recognize how crazy it was.

Psst viruses dont care about borders.

I dare anybody that thinks that Mexico is a safer and better run country than the United States to move there.

Put you body where your mouth is.

Have you seen our government lately? Sure. Its looking better and better each day and its not even because of immigrants.

So when are you moving to Tijuana?

Cant even if i wanted to? So the best i can do is try to make things better here :). Love it or leave it is bull****.

Roll up the sleeves and get to work time? I like it... the American Way. ;)

I disagree. We do need to reform our immigration laws and make them more immigrant friendly, that said...we do not need open borders, it is a dangerous prospect...

No, we need to Reform our very own citizenry

I think our immigration system is seriously broken and needs to be repaired. There is no excuse for people to have to wait years or decades to legally enter the country.

We are nation of immigrants and we a better for the diversity that we have due to it. We need to unskilled workers because there are jobs Americans won't do for the money that makes those jobs viable for employers. In some cases we need skilled workers from places like India. There are probably many people who are anti immigration because of bigotry.

Even with all that I am not for open borders. Borders and more specifically the control of the inflow of aliens is one of the things that defines a nation. There are legitimate security concerns that need to be addressed, though some on the right way overflow them for political reasons.

The United States has an ethical responsibility to her citizens and no one else.
