What's wrong with open Borders?

I just don't see why this wouldn't work.

I support opening of the borders of the United States; in other words, anyone can become a legal resident as soon as they arrive just by registering with the immigration agency.
The United States is a vast country, there is so much land that is almost uninhabited. We have the 12th lowest real population density of any country, so feeding immigrants wouldn't be a problem. Most immigrants either do menial jobs that almost no native-born US citizens will do, such as working in meat packing plants or in pesticide-soaked fields for miniscule wages, or have skills that are in such high demand that opening the borders wouldn't cause a significant problem for native-born citizens, such as computer science and medical jobs.

Finally, the United States, and other colonial powers like the UK, France and Japan, have an ethical responsibility to try to make up for the injustices they have done to developing nations. In addition to committing genocide against the indigenous peoples of this land, in this hemisphere alone the United States: overthrew a social democratic government in Guatemala because it was having success with land reform; subjected the Sandanista government in Nicaragua to right-wing Contra rebels; overthrew via the CIA the democratically-elected Salvador Allende in a coup in Chile because of his democratic socialist polices; and son on and so forth. Let us also not forget the damage done in Africa, not just with the Slave Holocaust, but also with the overthrowing of leaders such as Patrice Lamumba in favour of criminal thugs such as Mobutu Sese Seko.

Therefore, I think open borders should stop being just a snarl word and be taken seriously as a mainstream immigration policy position.
Because I don’t want my taxes to go up to feed people that refuse to support themselves whether because they’re lazy or think they’re entitled. We have enough of those already.

Lets ask every single country in Europe who control their borders why they do it. What we are doing with our southern border is stupid.

We have laws to secure and control our borders. Of course Biden is doing what he wants. Open Borders! Over 1 million across the border last year. A country with open borders is not a country. No country can survive what is happing to us now.

The Biden Administration agrees with you.

It won't work.

First you assume that because we have a low population density we have the ability to grow food to feed all these people. Maybe be do, maybe we don't. Antarctica has a very low population. If we sent all the illegal immigrants would they be able to feed them?

While I agree that illegals mostly do jobs that Americans won't do what happens when those jobs are all filled? Open borders implies that immigrants can continue to come even though there aren't jobs for them. What happens to those people?

Open borders is completely unworkable.

It's not about food and jobs. It's about controlling the border and letting in good people and keeping criminals, terrorists, drugs, and weapons out.

One of the questions I have is exactly how can we truly vet any of these migrants showing up at the border? Do they all have trust worthy identification? Furthermore, what type of records do these countries actually keep on these people?
