We have a dog that humps anything and everything including mid-air! We have to put him in a room when company comes so he doesn't hump everyone's leg. I never see cats or any animal do what dogs do. Last night I saw on the news there is now a 24 hour show for only dogs! It is for dogs to "watch" when they are left alone. How many milleniums have dogs gotten by just fine without their own show? What's next their own talk show? Sirius radio? Movie theaters?
Back to Humpy The Dog, if there is a God this new "for dogs only" network will have porn after midnight so our little "I'll #@$k Anything" pet will know at least some gatification in his lonely, miserable life.

If he hasn't been neutered you should do so,
it'll help a bunch.

Also use that 4 letter word NO!! anytime he does so,
that will help too.

Good Luck!!

and this is different than the typical human male, how?

it's not just male dogs. we have a female yorkie, spayed, and she humps anything that isn't moving. hell...I've even seen her trying to hump one of our cats. needless to say, the cat was NOT impressed.

For the most part, a dog that humps everything in site hasn't been trained. He doesn't know he isn't the alpha. What a horrible position for a dog to be in, by the way. Very few dogs have the personality and fortitude to actually be alpha dogs, so when they're inadvertently put in that position? They're neurotic as hell.

Want it to stop? Invest twenty minutes a day into teaching him to heel on leash. Reward him liberally for good behavior. Feed him a good quality dog food; not the cheapest you can find like many people do. And you'll have a loyal companion who comfortably knows his "place" in your pack. Oh. And the humping will stop with minor verbal corrections.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it in the thread yet, but humping is a way dogs show dominance. A female is always doing it for that reason. A male, unless the female is in heat, is doing it for that reason as well.

I believe that it is more of a domination move.

yeah...the cats let her know right quick and in a hurry that she was NOT dominant. ;) I think the issue with our dog is that she was already several years old when we got her and had not been spayed. her humping sessions always seem to coincide with the times that she would have previously been in heat.

Don't even get me started about dogs and that nonsense. I can't even go to my friends house as much anymore because her dog always humps and licks me whenever I came over. I used to come over frequently too and always continued when it had the chance, so obviously it liked what it saw. I didn't know whether to be scared, flattered or both.

Humping isn't a gender issue, it's a dominance and training (lack thereof) issue. :)

:rofl The poor cat!

Just be grateful that it's not a Great Dane. :lamo

I shutter at the thought lol. The dog wasn't a Great Dane, but it was still pretty honkin' huge. Big enough to pull around an 18 y.o girl around on a sled...let's ignore the ethical issues behind that as well, shall we? :)

I once knew a kid who was "attacked" by a Great Dane. He was just lucky he had pants on is all I can say. :rofl

Our lab puppy stopped humping (mostly) after we got him fixed. Occasionally when he and our Lokey-doke are playing the lab will try to hump him in an effort to show dominance, but he has (thankfully) never humped a human.

That **** is so funny because me and my dad went to my uncles today (I haven't been there for a couple of years) and their dog started humping my leg and my aunt said: "don't bother he's just in heat." I brushed the damn thing away and it came back for more of my leg.... This whole time I'm trying to be "normal" while my aunt is yelling "knock it off" to the dog then she says something like "hes just friendly."...

After we left I told my dad that if that dog busted a nut on my leg I would have punched it in the face (not really/maybe)...

I love dogs to boot - I'm a dog guy but fix your pets if you don't want them to breed (or hump your leg)... Fixed pets are so much nicer and docile ...

For those with one of those dogs with a little bit of Mississippi Leg Hound in him.
From the world's greatest movie, National Lampoon Christmas Vacation.

Cousin Eddie:
"He's cute ain't he? Only problem is, he's got a little bit a Mississippi Leg Hound in him. If the mood catches him rite, he'll grab your leg and just go to town. You don't want him around if your wearing short pants, if you know what I mean. Word of warning, though, if he does lay into ya, it's best to just let him finish."
