If you are calling depletion allowances subsidies: How is depreciation of the cost of an oil well any different than depreciation of the cost of a steel mill? Or a semi-truck?

How about Solar Energy businesses

receive a solar depreciation allowance?

Flat-out price controls.

Use less energy, innovation, more oil. That simple. You can't just flood the market with oil though. Our oil is very expensive to recover compared to Middle East and Russian oil. Flood the market and you only put U.S. producers out of business.

The solution is to grow the 'f' up and stop whining about it.
Jeez...it staggers me how much whining Americans do about gas prices.
Like a bunch of 12 year old's.

The reason for the high prices is obvious to anyone who understands macroeconomics...which most of you obviously do not.

You 'print' an EXCREMENT load of money - as the Fed and federal government did during Covid?
Like $4 trillion each?
Over an extremely, short period of time?
Plus, the lockdowns shutdown everything.
And you get inflation.
This falls under the 'well duh' category.

And to those people who keep posting STAGGERINGLY STUPID posts like 'we need to pump more oil'?
Oil is already practically back to pre-pandemic levels of production.

It just takes time for all that 'cheap' money that was created to work it's way through the system.

Just grow up, calm down, suck it up and live with it for a while.
Because it was you idiots who called for the lockdowns and ALL the free money from the government who caused this mess in the first place.

The owner of a F150 doesn't make Billion$ & pay no taxes because he drove his truck off the lot, maybe a Steel Plant does, I doubt it.

It still beats being a Canuck

We have a nation BECAUSE it provides us with a government to help check/balance wealth, violence, theft, etc.
Government check / balance violence, theft, ect. Sure.

Wealth? Not so much.

Stop crying about all government being bad, it's absurd and destructive. Government should definitely regulate big energy, and should definitely get involved in our other crisis, healthcare, ASAP.
The federal government interventions are appropriately limited by the constitution.

We use rules and regulations in every sufficiently complex system on the planet, in order to achieve good outputs. Government/society is no exception.

Obviously, the solution to get lower energy prices is to flood the market with more oil.

This is a commodity. Supply and demand. There is nothing any more simple than this.
That'd be the basic econ 101 that many are missing.

While oil is a big F deal in our economy, we need an all of the above approach.

-use less energy
-more oil
-more solar
-more wind
-more geo
-more hydro
-more nuclear
-more innovation
-less taxes and regulation

We also need to recognize that electric cars are made of oil. Electric cars are charged by oil. Simply going electric doesnt change anything. Most of our electricity comes from natural gas (oil byproduct) and oil.

Right now, the greatest and simplest thing we can do to lower energy prices is more supply. Increase the supply of gas and oil to lower prices of fuel, heating oil, etc......once we do this, then we can begin to work more legitimately in other means to diversify our energy. The shouting, "the world's going to end" group is a cult and should be avoided at all costs. A level head, an even keel is needed and don't blindly follow and believe what wealthy, private jet flying around the world guru's spout.....they are out to make money, that's all.

the solution is the federalization of the energy industry......take the profit motive away from energy investors......imo we already have the technology to replace gasoline in automobiles with electric power generation built into the wheels......but it, like solar and wind and every other alternative gets smashed by Wall St and global oil barons because there still is too much oil in the ground for them not to exploit......

it can be argued that all humankind has need of power for homes and transportation and industry.......and like healthcare it should not be controlled by a few profiteers.......

the day will come when this comes about.......unless.....the profiteers come to their senses and make the energy they control affordable for all
