what's the relationship: dept. of defence and the joint chiefs of staff?

Yes. The Joint Chiefs of Staff serve as military advisers to the President and the Secretary of Defense and I believe they can also be called upon by Congress to testify. You can easily look all this stuff up on wikipedia though.
 
You know there is a Central Military Committee in China and there are Chief of General Staff in other countries, so I was wondering whether they are functioning the same.

Indeed, in Canada we have a unified military, called the Canadian Forces (CF). There are still the 3 branches with different commands, however, they all report to the CF's top position, the Chief of Defence Staff who reports to the Minister of National Defence.

I have read a brochure issued about US government system in my college library, and got interested with it.

China is undertaking reforms over the government system, but I guess they are "crossing the river by touching penis". ))

Oh, I apologize. I didn't realize you were from China. Perhaps before we say whether or not they function the same you could tell us how the Central Military Committee functions. I think most Americans here knows as much about the Central Military Committee as you know about the Joint Chiefs of Staff. :tongue4:
 
the Joint Chiefs of Staff are the warpigs telling obama what to do.
