And what if I told you the woke inteligensia could, if given sufficient advance notice, find white supremacy in a ham on rye?

It's hard to argue that the invasion of Ukraine is being treated much differently than the ongoing conflicts/bombings/invasions of predominantly Muslim countries over the last few decades.

What a mess of a thread to start.

1. geopolitical fiction? By that stupid definition the U.S. is a geopolitical fiction, it's not a continent either.
2. woke intelgensia - sounds like right wing propaganda not a serious debate inquiry
3. white supremacy in a ham on rye - yuck yuck, more propaganda laughs

Maybe you had a serious quest buried in that pile of nonsense. Maybe not.

They make a good point. “Europe” is very much arbitrarily defined.

For instance, is Georgia a European or Asian country? What about Armenia? Turkey? Cyprus?

Who claims the US is a continent?

Am I supposed to care what one person tweeted?

Does no one want to actually address the point being made? “Europe” is a social construction. It’s separation from Asia is arbitrary and extremely fuzzy when you try to define where the borders are.

Where is she wrong?

Also, as much as MOST of are having compassion and support for the Ukrainians in this conflict, she's entirely right about this same courtesy not being extended to, say, Palestinians under the yoke of oppression. I don't think it's a stretch to think that that's because we tend not to give a **** about brown people.

Why is Ukrainian “European” and Turkey “Asian”?

Geographically, of course, Europe is a social construct. The flaw in Wells's argument, however, is asserting the construct is masking an intention to make us care only about "white" countries.

Ural and Caucasus mountain ranges are too fuzzy for you?

Except the social construction of Europe is intended to exclude non-white nations.

Populated mostly by folks with epicanthic folds or not?
