What's Russian for "Dog Whistle?"

Who claims the US is a continent?
Read the meme in the OP.
"Europe is not a continent by definition, but a geopolitical fiction"

Apply that definition to nearly every country. Apply it to the U.S.
"The U.S. is not a continent by definition, but a geopolitical fiction".

It's absurd. Not being a continent does not mean a country is a geopolitical fiction.

Ural and Caucasus mountain ranges are too fuzzy for you?

Yes. Very much so. Because Georgia is considered a European country, yet Armenia is considered Asian. It’s very much arbitrary.

Turkey is west of the Urals and the Caucasus but is considered Asian, not European.

It's absurd.

Except nobody claims the US is a continent. The comparison fails.

Except the social construction of Europe is intended to exclude non-white nations.
No, that is a consequence, not an intention.

Is the social construct that is Africa meant to exclude white nations? Is Antarctica meant to exclude all skin colors?

Not everything is race-based, which is the problem highlighted in the OP.

Africa isn’t socially constructed. Neither is Antarctica. Both have easily objectively defined borders.

You're not really understanding this are you.
It's reduction to absurdity.

The claim presented appears to be that if something is not a continent, it's a "geopolitical fiction".

If you don't understand the definition presented in the OP, I can't really help you. If not, then what did the OP mean this statement "Europe is not a continent by definition, but a geopolitical fiction"? It look pretty clear.

That’s not what being said at all.

They aren’t saying “Lake Michigan is not a continent, therefore it’s a geopolitical fiction”. This is “X isn’t a continent therefore…”. This is specifically referring to the circumstances of Europe as a continent.

Europe as a continent is a geopolitical fiction. It’s separation from Asia is purely arbitrary and no well defined.

So the distinction is racial? Good reinforcement of the OP tweet.
The ****ing word “Asian” defines a racial type.

The Europeans and the Asians grew together from the coasts where humans originally settled. Population growth pushed them together. Empires mixed them.

Or did you just hear something and think you had an insight?

Arabs have epicanthic folds?

They are Asians.

We are in agreement there is an element of subjectivity (including political subjectivity) when it comes to defining what is and what is not a continent. That this subjectivity exists is not the point Wells is trying to make.

And the point stands, because the arbitrary definition of Europe has been done in such a way to exclude non-white countries.

Wells is implying we only "care" about white nations under attack. Well, let's look back at the most recent major military events where the US "cared" enough to send its young men and women into harm's way:
  • Afghanistan
  • Iraq War
  • Gulf War
  • Panama
  • Vietnam War
  • Korean War
  • WWII
.... so it would seem we've not "cared" enough to come to the rescue of white people since the 1940s, and more importantly, we've yet to do it today in the Ukraine.

Arabs have epicanthic folds?

They are Asians.
Not if you ask them. Different cultures, different religions, African middle eastern origins. The Silk Road did not always connect them.

The Middle East isn’t part of Africa. The Middle East is part of Asia and has been since the Bronze Age at least.

Noe of those nations on that list you invaded are "white". There's a thing!

Why the Bronze Age?

It’s different cultures growing together that gave us our “geopolitical” boundaries. Middle easterners are NOT part of Chinese or even Indian culture. Europeans are neither asian nor Arab in culture nor genetics any more than they’re African. All of the above settled and developed apart from each other. Then grew together.

Where is she wrong?

Also, as much as MOST of are having compassion and support for the Ukrainians in this conflict, she's entirely right about this same courtesy not being extended to, say, Palestinians under the yoke of oppression. I don't think it's a stretch to think that that's because we tend not to give a **** about brown people.
the thing about dog whistles is.....only the dog hears the whistle.
