America is as divided and has as many issues to confront than, arguably, ever before. What could really help us find solutions for everyone and help Unite the country in a way never before seen is a bi-partisan campaign. What are your thoughts? I know it is wishful thinking and 99% wont happen but still.

Look....I doubt it would ever happen either.
In the last election there was speculation that Kerry might team up with McCain....didn't happen.

The only way it could feasibly happen would be in a strong third party ticket.

Personally, I would love to see it happen. Bush ran as a "Uniter" but has used wedge issues to win elections at the expense of driving this country to the brink of a cultural civil war.

As Liberal as I am and as much as I would love to see a Liberal President, I would be willing to sacrifice my own ideals at the sake of once again having a country that was united. I would be willing to compromise to reach peace.

That it:

1. Gay Marriage - Despite the fact that I believe there is NO rationale/credible argument against gay marriage. I understand that religious folks take issue with the term. And although I don't think seperate but equal is right...I would personally accept civil unions with the same rights and privileges as marriage and let the anti-gay marriage keep their term.

2. Abortion - Compromise here is more difficult because I believe in a woman's right to choose and believe that government should not be in the business of dictating reproductive issues. But I am against Abortion and think things should be done to decrease it. Safe-haven baby drop offs was a step in the right direction, access to birth control and sex education is another, access to the morning after pill should be allowed and abortions should be limited to the first trimester without restriction with increasing restrictions beyond that.

3. Church/State - We have to convince both sides here. To the "Christians" you need to understand that Christianity is not "under attack". To the anti-religion folks you need to understand that not every display of religion violates the Constitution. School prayer is definitely out as is 10 commandments in courthouses, nativity scenes on government property.
School religion clubs should be allowed and be encouraged as any other school group, private businesses should be encouraged to put up public displays of religious things such as nativity scenes and the government should not restrict such displays in private businesses. Schools and Government should be able to celebrate Holidays in the secular sense without concerns that they are promoting a religion.
