You would have thought that, during the Winter Olympics, somebody in the press would have tracked down Oksana Baiul to ask her opinion regarding the Russian pressure on Ukraine.

The Ukrainian figure skating diva won the gold medal in ladies’ singles at the 1994 Winter Olympics. Sure, Baiul is no towering intellect in the field of international relations, but her comments would have been a legitimate human-interest story.

She's lived in the U.S. since 1994 — maybe they thought she knows what we know. Or maybe they talked to her and she said something boring or refused to comment.

A recovering alcoholic but still with a few million stashed away .
Probably not the ideal candidate for balanced comment but let's hope she has resisted going back to the bottle since marriage and a kid .

Did you see how the Russian coaches totally humiliated that 15 year old figure skater on their team who fell in her final skating routine? It made grown men cry. Why is Russia even included in these international events?

She spent more time on the ice than skating . Long Covid or just lazy ?

Hardly a good role model for hard working little Russian five and six year olds back home .

That coach should have biffed her ears .
Hopefully off for corrective treatment when she gets back to the re-education centre .

She certainly let down Mother Russia and her fellow Olympic teammates. I'm guessing she'll be whisked away to the nearest gulag and never heard from again.

I'm struggling to understand why I should care about the political thoughts of a retired sportsperson.
She was good at Skating, not at politics.

Maybe that the bad guys are winning?
