What undeserved privilege?

I think he was making a commentary on the New American sense of entitlement. The pursuit of happiness has become the expectation of it. We are very fortunate, and many of us may not deserve it. We are squandering our wealth, our geopolitical moral highground, and are becoming a worse nation for it. IMO

Also, we're getting much dumber.

I expect to happy. I just don't expect anyone else to MAKE me happy.

Not all of us our fortunate, and not all of us are undeserving of our fortune should we have it. Some people have worked damn hard to get where they are. I just take issue with being told (or it being assumed) that I am "undeserving" of what I may have.

I don't think he was making any personal accusations, perhaps he (and I) was painting with too broad a brush. However your understanding of the pursuit of happiness is correct.

Exactly. Far too many people think that simply being free to pursue happiness guarantees achieving it and it just ain't so. I might think that to be happy, I need a billion dollars but you know something? I'm just going to be out of luck.

This is one of the downright, funniest posts I have ever witnessed. I think I'm still crying from laughing so hard.

My "ideology" comes from myself and my own inner thoughts, having said that. I lean towards the left, because I value their ideas.

What influenced me the most was when I realized socialism - in any form - is nothing more than tyrannical oppression wrapped up in some emotionally appealing rhetoric. So in general I tend to vote against those who want to bring more socialism into our nation, and that happens to be the Democrats with their bullcrap arguments to increase taxes (currently to fund some crapola socialistic health care system) for "social" programs.

What also influences my political vote is who is going to shred our Constitution, and the way the Democrats have long wanted to take away my weapons means I tend to vote against them on this issue.

What influences my political vote also rests on who is going to stand with all US citizens in times of strife. In the early '40's, it was the democrats. Since then, they've done a 180 and will sacrifice our nation in favor of some votes.

"political idealogy"? Thats such a stupid thing to say. I mean, I dont know if its just your love of words not commonly used, or what. Why dont you word it differently? How about: "What influences your opinions?"

Wow, I didn't realize that "political ideology" was such an uncommon phrase, especially on a political debate forum.

that question is immensely different than the one you are asking.

Then perhaps thats not why that question was asked...because the opening poster had a specific question in mind which he phrased appropriately. If you don't want to answer the question, then don't...but do not arrogantly come in here and try to denigrate someone for instigating discussion. That's just weak.

Say it...

man.

He's always doing that, acting all high and mighty, standing on his pedestal of arrogence, lecturing us haughtily and "tsk, tsking" us to beat the band while he sips tea with pinky extended telling us to "eat cake".

Friggin guy even got made a "moderator" in "The Basement". Not sure what that is all about but I hear it's very snobby down there. Mind your "P's" and "Q's. Shirley it's not the kind of place I'd be associated with. Let alone posting down there.

Yea, jallmans got a BIG book of phrases he keeps pulling out on us making us all google like our life depended on it. He says things like, "moral relativism" "bipartisanship" "quid pro quo" "Pez" "neo-cons" and "rhino".

Not sure what all that means but more than likely they have no place on a political debate forum.

If I were you I keep on doing exactly what you are.

You're winning.

No, really, you are.

I became frustrated with the political armed force game when i was refused entry into the armed forces of this great country at the age of 16. the Army , Navy or the Air Force could have given me a DESK JOB OR WORK IN THE FOOD SLOP THAT THE GOVERNMENT FEEDS TO THE GUYS THAT FIGHT TO KEEP AMERICA FREE!!.

I am that guy who was born a cripple (Scoliosis in 1932.)In 1935 I got Polio from the neck down. I was healed well enough to leave two hospitals after ten years.

But at the age of 16; my; government thought that i was not servicable even behind a desk. Today it finally has happened. The armed forces take back the guys injured from IRACK AND AFPACKISTAN. (In case u don't notice the mispelled words they r there to show HANDYCAPABILITY.

NOW i am a very strong advocate for NATIONAL free health care only because i met the Warden on this forum. i am mr tony

Dag mr tony, you're 75 years old, bro?

My parents, grandparents, experiances, and the Bible and my conscious influenced me.

My parents were EXTREMELY poor when I was born and they had a very sick baby (me) who constantly was needing surgery after surgery and expensive medicine. My dad worked from the very bottom rung of his job as a tractor mechanic and after 20 years or so he's one of their most respected managers and now we are comfortable middle class.

My grandparents are religious and I was raised in a Baptist church, and taught to be kind and respectful and right and wrong, from them and my mom.

There are Extremes on both ends, and I am moderate right. Don't believe in the crazy stuff from the left like everything's ok and morals don't exist and no one has to work, and take workers' money to give the lazy. My dad DESERVES his money, you wackos. And the evil extreme rights are really mean and hateful and nasty to other people, be nice, you nuts.

My posision was solified last night when Hillary said Middle class wages and healthcare was going down when my dad just got a raise and new insurence. Shut up, you liar.

My parents, grandparents, experiances, and the Bible and my conscious influenced me.

Your conscious, or did you mean your conscience?

Shut up, you liar.

Now, now. Let's not work ourselves up into a tizzy.

I'm surprised nobody put: That little spot on your paycheck where the State and Federal Government show how hard they're raping you each week.

It's had the biggest influence on my political ideology by far..

Although, conservatism isn't an ideology; it's the absence of ideology.

Well anyway....

Milton Friedmon and Bill Simon's writings. And of course Reagan.

Being a resident of NYS, I have to admit that, to some minor degree, living here has influenced my ideology, but I am no more leaning towards the left than I am towards the right even though NYS is now currently dominated by Democrats.

Though honestly most of it comes from a certain few pieces of literature. One of which that I take to heart is the pieces written by Nietzsche, which need no introduction.

My influences are not political. I don't think it is fair that a politicians influence should come from politics itself, since politics associates itself as a representative of the quality of life for a nation.

Your conscious, or did you mean your conscience?

Now, now. Let's not work ourselves up into a tizzy.

Oh yeah, conscience, thanks. Yeah, it was late and I posted that right before bed. I was trying to be funny, heh, but did feel guilty afterwards about calling her a liar. Just couldn't think of another word at the moment...:( I guess moron could have been better. But how could she say that Bush's admin caused wages and stuff to go down for middle class when it's really good right now? Now if she had said Lower class, maybe. I don't think some of them know the difference between rich and middle...^^

In the past it was my parents who influenced me the most. During that time I was a Bush-supporting Republican.

But during my senior year of high school I read a short essay by Gore Vidal titled, "Drugs", which was highly critical of the Drug War. It seemed to completely open up my eyes to the ideas of self responsibility.

By college I discovered libertarianism through research on the internet. Since then I have been heavily influenced by the works of Lysander Spooner, Murray Rothbard, Thomas Paine, and many others. More recently the works of Albert Jay Nock and Henry George have converted me to geolibertarianism.
