???What Jobs Do Americans Not Want???

So then can you prove it...that this is like the Soviet Union goverment/idea?

And what dose this mean you ya'll:
And your quote:When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist.–Dom Helder Camara, Brazilian archbishop

You said:

"...the government should have 3 job to pick from..."

When governments start providing jobs for everyone, the socialist floodgates open. Government jobs are funded through tax revenues (money forcibly taken from citizens and businesses) and your idea would naturally raise taxes and lead to a slippery slope. Higher taxes hinder economic growth, entreprenuers are more reluctant to venture into new businesses and existing business would be burdened by the extra weight of taxes leading to more unemployment thus more taxpayer funded government jobs and the cycle repeats itself...

Ok, that was my plan and you shot it down? And give a reasonble answer for why? now why dont you come up with a plan better then mine for "what to do with unemployment".....so i can judge you....

Abolish minimum wage.

It would work actually.

I used to think like you but then I started reading books on economics, some of the greatest ones including The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith and Human Action by Ludwig von Mises.

Our discussion concerns unemployment. Now let's look at what minimum wages do: force businesses to pay a certain amount of money to their workers. When a business is required to pay a certain amount of money to an employee, it lacks funds needed to finance more jobs or more money for more productive jobs. Everytime the minimum wage is raised, unemployment goes up. This is FACT. Minimum wage is relatively low here in the United States ($5.15/hour) and unemployment is also quite low (5%.) Now shift to socialized-democracies like those in western Europe.. minimum wages are quite a bit higher than they are in America but unemployment is as well. Jobless rates hover above 10% in many of those countries. Not to mention the fact that so much more of their paychecks are jacked by taxes that min. wage workers over there really aren't making much more than min. wage workers do here.

Take a company like McDonalds for example. Their cashiers are paid minimum wage but a cashier position sure as hell isn't worth $5.15 an hour. Any teenager with an 8th grade education can do that job. In reality, that job is probably only worth maybe 2$ an hour. Since McDonalds is FORCED by the government to pay all these teenagers well over twice what these jobs are worth, millions of dollars go where they don't belong. It should be going to underpaid managers and other, more productive workers in the McDonalds hierarchy determined by the free market.

In short: less minimum wage = less unemployment.

I see what you mean...but then wouldn't that mean it would be slave labor...and if you take away minimum wages then you would have to lower labor laws...but isn't the cost of living to high to be make so little...

(I have to do somemore research on no minmun wage I will have some more info tommorow)

No offence to African-Americans, but there is a good deal of them who are unemployed...they surely would take up the jobs left behind after we kick out the illegal aliens.

Yes, your explain makes senses to a extant. Ok, first if I was 16 years old and in 8th grader and making 2$ an hour, working at McDonalds as a cashier position. And working 40 hour a week, I would only get 80$ a pay check. Even with living with my parents I wouldn't have enough money to buy clothes and other teen stuff. Because the standing of living would be to high. And why would I want to work...when I could become homeless in California and make 13,000 dollars a year.(Read It Some Where On Forums Here)

And the only thing you are right about is that when minimum wages goes up so dose unemployment. And what would make people work if they can still get unemployment. And I think my idea is better then yours and would work better in the long run. I think other people would agree with me on this one. Try to come up with another one.

I think you make a good point here. No person, teenager or illegel or what, is going to work for $80/full work week. Just wouldn't happen.

OMG, this day must go in history Kelzie agreed with me, and she is a woman too...:3oops:

Well anyway do you have an idea's on "how to fix unemployment...?" Do you think my plan would work Kelzie I need some on else to agree with me or disagree. Thanks for your :twocents: .... i hope you have a good :!:

I never said I advocated abolishing minimum wage. I simply offered it as an answer to reduce unemployment which is what our discussion entailed.

Millions of people work for less than this.

You can't "fix" unemployment. It is a necessity in a capitalist society. I believe the US is fairly close to the optimal rate of unemployment, but I can't say for sure. Without unemployment, you have no competition, which as I'm sure everyone knows, drives capitalism. Which is why I believe it is the capitalist state's duty to provide welfare: to help out the people that its system demands be unemployed.

True.. but you said "No person, teenager or illegel or what, is going to work for $80/full work week. Just wouldn't happen."

Besides, they might in the US were it not for a minimum wage.

Please. We were talking about America. Why would I put down "in America" if that's what we were talking about.

And no one in America would work 40 hours for $80. Forget it. It would never happen. Teenagers aren't that dumb, and illegal still have to pay for rent.

When I was in 8th grade (only about 6 years ago) I made off fine living on TEN dollars a week that I got from my parents.

What standard of living do teens have to meet? The only things they wouldn't be able to afford are things they simply don't need.

Teenagers aren't that dumb because they know that there's a minimum wage. As for illegals, why should a business be forced to pay them enough so they can pay their rent? They don't belong here in the first place.

I find it highly doubtful you did five hours worth of work for them a week. If I remember middle school correctly, I did maybe 2 hours of chores a week. Maybe. And parents don't count. As my mom said: "Pay for your chores? Why should I pay for your chores? I feed you don't I?" I can promise, the amount of money your parents spent feeding and clothing you go far beyond minimum wage for the little amount of work you did

The Real McCoy said:

It really doesn't matter what standard of living they need. Teenagers can work out the value of their time. And their time is worth more than $2/hour.

Umm, because they're doing the work?

I think illegals belong here just like all immigrants. There is a need for their labor, and most just want to better themselves. Were not stopping them at the border, let's give them the visas so they can enter legally and work jobs that I feel most Americans do not want.

Kelzie said:

You're right, I didn't. I was just making a point that $80 a week is more than enough for teens to live on.

Kelzie said:

Exactly. Parents provide food, shelter, etc. so why should teens be paid $6/hour (I live in New York) to operate a cashier (a job that sure as hell ain't worth that much), robbing businesses of money that should be going to jobs for those who live on their own and require a decent wage?

There's a difference between illegal migrants and legal ones. And we're not stopping them at the border because we don't have enough resources at our borders to do so, they're flooding in like rats. Visas shouldn't be handed out like candy at the borders, they should be earned.

Kelzie said:

Illegally.

Weird that a business must follow the law to pay them a certain amount but can disgregard the law against hiring them in the first place.
