What issue for you is the most important issue for the next election? For me, it's healthcare.

Meaning, exactly, what? Do you prefer something like the H.R 676 approach?

This bill establishes the Medicare for All Program to provide all individuals residing in the United States and U.S. territories with free health care that includes all medically necessary care, such as primary care and prevention, dietary and nutritional therapies, prescription drugs, emergency care, long-term care, mental health services, dental services, and vision care.

Only public or nonprofit institutions may participate. Nonprofit health maintenance organizations (HMOs) that deliver care in their own facilities may participate.

Patients may choose from participating physicians and institutions.

Health insurers may not sell health insurance that duplicates the benefits provided under this bill. Insurers may sell benefits that are not medically necessary, such as cosmetic surgery benefits.

The bill sets forth methods to pay institutional providers and health professionals for services. Financial incentives between HMOs and physicians based on utilization are prohibited.

The program is funded: (1) from existing sources of government revenues for health care, (2) by increasing personal income taxes on the top 5% of income earners, (3) by instituting a progressive excise tax on payroll and self-employment income, (4) by instituting a tax on unearned income, and (5) by instituting a tax on stock and bond transactions. Amounts that would have been appropriated for federal public health care programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), are transferred and appropriated to carry out this bill.

The program must give employment transition benefits and first priority in retraining and job placement to individuals whose jobs are eliminated due to reduced clerical and administrative work under this bill.

The Department of Health and Human Services must create a confidential electronic patient record system.

The bill establishes a National Board of Universal Quality and Access to provide advice on quality, access, and affordability.

The Indian Health Service must be integrated into the program after five years. Congress must evaluate the continued independence of Department of Veterans Affairs health programs.

It is always amazing that "free" simply means paid for by new (and/or higher) federal taxes.

For me it is the stagnant (declining?) median wage - additional federal taxation to provide more "free" stuff does not seem like part of the solution.

Just stop this nonsense right now. EVERY single healthcare system in the world is DRAMATICALLY cheaper than ours, and there are dozens and dozens of examples of countries with 100% healthcare coverage that provide higher quality care at less than half the cost per capita. Nobody has ever claimed that healthcare is literally free, just that it should be accessible by all. You come into the conversation being intentionally dishonest.

Dealing with climate change and modernizing American healthcare.

Removing Republicans from office.<-period. Especially Donald Jane Trump.

Rescind Citizens United and the Patriot Act. Promote socialism.

Bear in mind that first and foremost I evaluate candidates with regard to whether as, an elected office holder, the individuals s/he construes themselves as public servants and, in turn, comport themselves, manage their staff/organization, and craft policy in accordance with that understanding. A candidate who strikes me as self-serving will never obtain my approbation in the voting booth.

I vote for people, not policies; thus I chose based on a candidates leadership qualities, and I assess that in much the same way folks do in corporate America.. Accordingly, ~90% or so of what drives my voting choices is:
  • a candidate's character and/or a candidate's character relative to his/her opponent,
  • a candidate's apparent and demonstrated acumen,
  • a candidate's philosophical approach to collaboration and organizational, change and people management, and
  • the nature and extent of a candidate's exposition about major policies, but not necessarily what be the candidate's position on them.
Only if those qualities fail to yield a preference do I bother with the specific policy positions candidates support/oppose.

Number one will always be the economy

After that we have so many pressing issues it is hard to know where to begin

Someone, at some point has to tackle Medicare and social securiy

We can’t keep same systems with same parameters...numbers just won’t keep working

How we tackle those problems is a time bomb no one wants to handle....but your kids, and mine, and their kids futures depend on us finding sensible answers now

The homeless here....it is an epidemic, and getting worse

Our education system....it stinks....for the dollars we throw at it, we ought to get much better results....

And we have to fix our political mess....too many are too far left or too far right, and no one is willing to meet in the middle....compromise and deals are how DC used to work.....how I wish for those days again

As it is every election, reduce the size and scope of the federal government and promote individual liberty thus opening up more opportunity for more Americans to make themselves, their families, their communities and their nation the greatest it can be.
