House Speaker Paul Ryan and Utah Republican Jason Chaffetz are leading House Republicans stating their anger at the decision by FBI Director James Comey to let Hillary off scot free for her egregious handling of classified information on her Email accounts.

Comey’s action has prompted House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman, Jason Chaffetz to haul Comey before his panel to testify. Chaffetz said, " ‘The fact pattern presented by Director Comey makes clear Secretary Clinton violated the law. Individuals who intentionally skirt the law must be held accountable.’ "

Chaffetz's statement now puts pressure on him, Ryan, and the rest of the GOP to prove they are truly sincere that, “Individuals who intentionally skirt the law must be held accountable,” they must see to it that Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice are held accountable along with Mrs. Clinton. After all, they are guilty of the same Email crimes during their tenures as Secretary of State. Certainly, the statute of limitations cannot have run out on such “heinous” crimes.

If the Republicans’ “investigation” into Clinton’s mishandling of classified emails isn’t a partisan witch hunt, Powell and Rice must face the same harsh consequences as Clinton. Of course, it can be expected the Republicans leading the probe will exempt members of their own party. They will use the excuse that, since there were no rules in place during the Bush/Cheney administration regarding Email, Rice and Powell are innocent of any wrongdoing. Republicans will conveniently forget such rules were not put in place until John Kerry took over as Secretary of State.

Rational people know the decisions by Comey and Attorney General Loretta Lynch to let the issue drop is the correct one. But, the House Republicans will continue their nonsense, why, because that is what they do to keep their easily fooled right wing base razzle dazzled.

NOW the House is going to DO something about something? Have hearings on this? I thought the whole Republican Congress was on strike until January?

If they're going to have hearings, tell the Senate to have hearings on the Supreme Court Justice. We're missing one, and the country is hobbling on one leg because of it.

How about having hearings on Condaleeza Rice's use of her personal email account for State Dept business? Or on Colin Powell's use of his personal email account for State Dept business? What...there was no investigation of those things? Because the Democrats didn't insist on it, because it's a waste of taxpayer money, when our country has important things to take care of? Is that why? So why an investigation THIS time? Because the Republicans are continuing their pattern of harassing the Clintons? Is that it? We know they readily spend Millions of OUR money for targeting the Clintons, so apparently they will continue that throughout her Presidency.

If anyone can take it, it's the Clintons, I suppose. They've already walked through the fire of the Republicans targeting them. They have experience.

Republicans quickly forget history and are just as quick to replace it with myth.

They’ve forgotten that Ford pardoned Nixon for lying about the Watergate break-in and his own involvement the crime. (It’s been replaced by the myth that “Tricky Dick” was a great statesman.)

It’s slipped the conservatives’ minds that their hero Reagan sold arms to Iran and funded a secret war that was also a secret he kept from congress. He then lied to the American people about it, just as Bill Clinton lied about the BJ he received from Monica. For his “high crime and misdemeanor”, Clinton was impeached. (While the “Reagan Myth" has erased the truth in the minds of conservatives and raised the senile old coot to god-like status.)

Then there is Bush Sr’s fib to fool the voters about his plan not to raise taxes. (He then raised taxes, which most right-wingers will deny happened.)

Bush Jr. lied about Iraq’s roll in 9/11, and then he led our country into the costliest war(s) in U.S. history.

Then there is Dubya’s buddy, the evil Darth Cheney. He outed a covert CIA agent as political payback.

All these unethical (and illegal) acts by Republicans are forgiven (or conveniently forgotten) by the rank-and-file GOP voters. But these same forgetful people demand Mrs. Clinton be pilloried for using a private Email account for classified communications. (They have also forgotten the two Secretaries of State during Dubya’s regime committed this identical “crime”.)

Any responses to this post by conservatives will contain their chosen myths as they attempt to refute what I have written. The right-wingers’ consistent denial of historic facts has long been apparent to rational people. Even though historic facts are readily available for all to see on the Internet, we understand trying to convince conservatives to admit the truth is impossible.

Yeah.............. meanwhile Jason Brezler, a highly decorated Major of the United States Marine Corps was forced out of the service for mishandling a single email that potentially saved the lives of many US Marines by using a private email account.

Marine's discharge on hold after warning of Taliban attack using unsecured email - USMC Life

Marine who warned of insider attack to be discharged

He gets a ticket to Palookaville, while people like you consider Hillary trustworthy enough.

The people agitating for further investigation...should really take a close look at Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi.

But American conservatives never learn. They just cry-wolf away.

Agreed.

BTW, not that this has to do with this thread per se, but I found this video absolutely hilarious:

Yup, they played that on MSNBC all morning yesterday. MSNBC of all places. If Trump was smart (and that's a debate for another thread) he would figure out a way to use that and run it on a 24 hour a day loop somewhere. That is one of the most damning things I've ever seen on any political candidate...ever.

There's a little bit more to the story than that, isn't there?

"The Naval Criminal Investigative Service reviewed electronics voluntarily turned over by Brezler and determined that he had more than 100 classified documents on his personal, unclassified hard drive and thumb drive.
...

The board of inquiry recommended removing Brezler from the service in December 2013 after prosecutors argued that he knowingly kept classified information in order to help him write a book about his experiences in Afghanistan. He appealed, but both the Marine Corps and the Navy Department, which were overseeing it, have upheld the decision."

Brezler was the one to volunteer the the drive(s) after the search was already concluded ....while he could have stayed quiet. More that 55 generals and political officials saw it that way also.

Did you read both links?

And it was more than just "a single email" - as you stated.

Of course I knew................... but the single email started the entire thing

But still, it is a glaring example of the hypocrisy and you know.

Powell and Rice had separate email accounts, not a separate email server. Those are two very different things. Clinton had an actual physical piece of equipment "off-site" and unsecured by the normal security measures. Powell and Rice had separate email accounts on secure "on-site" servers.

No. Powell's (non-classified, but found to have contained some classified material in a review this past year) account which he used exclusively for official state business was not on on-site servers.

Unless you think AOL mail servers reside in the State Dept.

In the article linked to in the OP, it was clear that personal account was on a secure server.

It was Ah Oh Hell.

Yes, secure as a commercial AOL account. :lmao

It wasn't on site, for damn sure either.

But Powell and Rice’s aides did nothing wrong. (I’m going to focus on them so that partisans who say Clinton broke the law have to attack respected Republicans first.) Start with this: Powell and Rice, like all modern secretaries of state, each had at least two email accounts—one personal and the other for communications designated as highly classified at the time of their creation . For classified information, both of them—and their aides with appropriate clearance—had a sensitive compartmented information facility, or what is known in intelligence circles as a SCIF. Most senior officials who deal with classified information have a SCIF in their offices and their homes. These are not just extra offices with a special lock. Each SCIF is constructed following complex rules imposed by the intelligence and defense communities. Restrictions imposed on the builders are designed to ensure that no unauthorized personnel can get into the room, and the SCIF cannot be accessed by hacking or electronic eavesdropping. A group called the technical surveillance countermeasures team (TSCM) investigates the area or activity to check that all communications are protected from outside surveillance and cannot be intercepted.

Most permanent SCIFs have physical and technical security, called TEMPEST. The facility is guarded and in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week; any official on the SCIF staff must have the highest security clearance. There is supposed to be sufficient personnel continuously present to observe the primary, secondary and emergency exit doors of the SCIF. Each SCIF must apply fundamental red-black separation to prevent the inadvertent transmission of classified data over telephone lines, power lines or signal lines

This is what I'm talking about when I refer to "on-site". It's a secure facility with managed security, not an unsecured one.

Also:
In addition to the classified email system used in SCIFs, there are personal email accounts. Prior to 2013, these could be accounts inside the relatively unsecure State Department system or private email accounts. If they are private—running through a commercial or personal server—they have to follow some rules set up in the Federal Register . There are no guards, no red-black procedures, no construction rules, no special rooms, no TEMPEST, no TSCM. And most important: Until 2013, there was no rule against using them. In fact, the rules specifically allowed for them. Check out the relevant section in the Code of Federal Regulations (36 CFR Chapter XII, Subchapter B, section 1236.22b) for the rules regarding the use of personal email accounts by any State Department official.

Yes, Powell did have an AOL account, but it was legal at that time. Not overly smart, but legal and conforming to Fed. standards.

The bottom line: Democrats may try to turn the revelations about the email accounts used by Powell and Rice’s staff into a scandal. They may release press statements condemning the former secretaries of state; they may call for scores of unnecessary congressional hearings; they may go to the press and confidently proclaim that crimes were committed by these honorable Republicans. But it would all be lies. Powell and Rice did nothing wrong. This could be considered a scandal only by ignorant or lying partisans. So there is no Powell or Rice email scandal. And no doubt, that will infuriate the Republicans who are trying so hard to trick people into believing Clinton committed a crime by doing the exact same thing as her predecessors.

I don't know what her security looked like but you aren't going to argue that Gmail is more secure than a private email server are you? Everyone and their mother with a google badge can potentially read your gmail.
