Ego/glory?
To improve America?
To make himself richer by improving the Trump name value?

And to answer the question, hard to say, it is probably a combination of all those and more. Motivations can be kinda complex.

In the beginning?

Probably to get his name out there, catch some of the spotlight, build up his name recognition in a positive way to enhance his sales resume. No hopes he'd really win.

After he started to get so much support?

Like anyone else realizing that they might actually achieve an unattainable goal...to win.

Perhaps he wants to turn the country around in a more positive direction.

but now that winning is doable, I think he is smart enough to get serious meaning once again ego, ergo all the fools supporting him are going to get a major shock when he moves into the white house

surprise, ego wins again, he can't look like the buffoon who was playing games to win, he will need to get serious and real, and all of the little posers who supported him will continue to do so and pretend whatever he does is okey dokey

all of those who say they hate him will continue along the same path even though he will do some things they like

it's a no win/win, win
