They seem be on a roll and acting as if there will never be any consequences they can't weather. The Biden crew is giving silent acceptance. So that is a plus.

They have nothing to lose by doing so, and the democrats have everything to gain by letting them. They can reverse themselves promising to play nice, then revert back when they are needed.

Our two party system may be ending in a way we never saw coming.

If I come over to your house and start saying things that you don't like, you can throw me out.

You're not violating my rights.

It's the same for Twitter. trump's in Twitter's house. Twitter can throw trump out if they want.

I reject the premise implied in to OP. Who says "Big Tech" is even considering shutting down Conservatives - in any year?

I never thought they would ever shut down public discourse conduits. As they said about the 911 attacks: "It was a failure of Imagination".

The downside to banning people with conservative views in the news media and on social media platforms is that people of differing viewpoints feel like they're being swept under the rug. That's how you get what just happened in DC.

Fewer psychometric profiles of conservatives to sell? Fewer ads constructed and sold using them?

Or just buy the silos through shell companies and just pretend to not just be conservative Facebook selling your operating manual to whoever can pay .

They won't ever know because all news but their news is fake news.

No cheating husband ever had it so good.

Conservatives weren’t banned from anything yet they attempted a coup. Your logic seems out of kilter

?? Who's shutting "down public discourse conduits" ??

...except that they weren't being censored. Anyone who thinks that conservative points of view are getting "swept under the rug" apparently hasn't heard of Fox News, or Rush Limbaugh, or Shaun Hannity, or Glen Beck, or dozens of well-known conservative news outlets and commentators.

That's also why they were able to use Parler and Gab to incite, plan and coordinate the attack on 1/6, and are continuing to coordinate another attack in DC before the inauguration.

Please. Conservatives have spent decades attacking the media; Trump has repeatedly referred to the press as the "enemy" and "enemy of the people," including on January 6th. Conservatives would dance in the streets if CNN stopped broadcasting tomorrow, or if Joe Biden was thrown off Twitter.

What's really happening is that Big Tech doesn't want to be a party to coordinated political violence. That is, after all, why they are taking these actions.

They are well aware that there will be blowback, especially from conservatives. In fact, social media gave Trump and many others a pass, for a long time, out of concern about the consequences. This week, they finally went too far. Many of this week's actions were long overdue.

So... You're saying that Big Tech has an obligation to allow violent right-wing extremists, and seditionists who actively want to overthrow the government, to say whatever they want? Because that's why they are getting booted.

Do you really expect Amazon to shut down Fox News? Twitter to kick McConnell off?

If there is an imminent "end to our two-party system," it's because Trump has destroyed the Republican Party.

Granted, he didn't cause all of its problems. Republicans have spent decades indulging plutocrats and advocating unpopular policies, resulting in their increasing reliance on undemocratic mechanisms such as the Electoral College, disproportionate Senate, and attempts to disenfranchise voters.

Trump mostly accelerated and capitalized on the existing negative partisanship, political divisions, white grievance, racism, anti-democratic sentiment, low voter turnout in primaries, undermining of government, and right wing echo chambers to indulge his megalomaniacal narcissism.

As is so often the case with the rise of autocracies, Republicans knew that Trump was dangerous. However, they indulged him anyway, because they were terrified of the MAGA contingent abandoning them, assumed he would give them the tax cuts the plutocrats wanted, and thought they could manage him and manipulate his followers. Now, it's too late. They are too dependent upon the white supremacists, QAnon, conspiracy theorists, seditionists and others.

And let's not forget that in the past four years, Republicans have violated or abandoned most of the principles they once stood for, including but not limited to:

Federalism
Originalism
Separation of powers
Rule of law
Opposition to political violence
Independence of law enforcement
Independence of the judiciary
Democracy
Fighting against dictators and dictatorships abroad
Fiscal responsibility
Cutting spending
Minimal government
Respect for the military
Not using the government to pick winners in the free market
Free trade
Balance of powers
Not giving the Executive Branch too much power
The importance of character
Holding elected officials accountable
Preventing foreign interference in US elections
Fighting corruption
Peaceful transition of power
Putting nation over self-interest
A basic respect for the truth

Nominally, the "Republican Party" will continue to exist; the laws make it almost impossible for the party mechanisms to change. But the Republican Party is essentially over.

And yet it was Obama's administration that took it a step further and actually had a reporter wiretapped (James Rosen)

It is ending by the means and in the way it did in 1930s Germany. The plutocrats and kleptocrats concentrating all power while 100% talking over all information outlets - newspapers, radio and movies (the equal to TV today). Once people could only hear Nazi propaganda it was game over for democracy, any other political parties, unions and quickly all human, civil and individual rights.

He also has whistle blowers to the press prosecuted and imprisoned.
