What is meant by the modern term referred to as ‘POLITICAL CORRECTNESS’.
The definition is found in 4 telegrams at the Truman Library and Museum in Independence, Missouri. The following are copies of four telegrams between President Harry Truman and Gen Douglas MacArthur on the day before the actual signing of the WWII Surrender Agreement in September 1945.. The contents of those four telegrams below are exactly as received at the end of the war - not a
word has been added or deleted!

(1) Tokyo, Japan
0800-September 1,1945
To: President Harry S Truman
From: General D A MacArthur

Tomorrow we meet with those yellow-bellied bastards and sign the Surrender
Documents, any last minute instructions?

(2) Washington, D C
1300-September 1, 1945
To: D A MacArthur
From: H S Truman

Congratulations, job well done, but you must tone down your obvious dislike of the Japanese when discussing the terms of the surrender with the press, because some of your remarks are fundamentally not politically correct!

(3) Tokyo, Japan
1630-September 1, 1945
To: H S Truman
From: D A MacArthur and C H Nimitz

Wilco Sir, but both Chester and I are somewhat confused, exactly what does the term politically correct mean?

(4) Washington, D C
2120-September 1, 1945
To: D A MacArthur/C H Nimitz
From: H S Truman

Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and promoted by a sick mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of s**t by the clean end!

Chain emails will be chain emails

Yea, I had always pictured the General as much more professional than that. I will never understand the RW's fascination with sophomoric, childish behavior.

That's also not how telegrams look either. So not only is it a fake, it's a bad fake.

I bet I get it in my email in the next couple of days from one of my friends or relatives. The RWNM keeps it echoing.

Plus, you know, I highly doubt a guy like Douglas MacArthur would refer to Admiral Nimitz as "Chester" in a report to his commander in chief

Right! And it's also curious that the only humor the LW believes to be actual humor is what comes from the Commie Prep-School elitist that degrades the RW, huh?

How about you make an attempt to argue in opposition to the proposition delivered by the chain-mail and it's defining accuracy of "political correctness?

It's easy to just turn your nose up and harder to explain why, huh?

As mentioned elsewhere Hammer, do some research before believing every chain mail you receive. This is a patently false story.

As to your question, I define Political Correctness as an awareness that speech, particularly political speech, has large and lasting influences on the general population and with that in mind, speech should be reasonably modulated in order to deliver the message without offending significant portions of the population.

There are times when offending someone is helpful, useful, or even necessary. But political actors are rarely serving any of those causes by intentionally or unintentionally engaging in such conduct.

But I'll bet you love and believe all of the RW bashing that went on, on the Daily Show and goes on, on Saturday Night Live, huh?

This is one of those made up emails the RW has been passing around since at I have heard of OBama. They are fantasy, they are lies and are passed around until the conservatives see them so many times they believe them. There is no reason to comment on lies. This is a made up right wing fantasy lie. Now pass it on in the conservative cybershpere that I refer to as the RWNM. It aint funny.
Right! And it's also curious that the only humor the LW believes to be actual humor is what comes from the Commie Prep-School elitist that degrades the RW, huh?

Well they do reruns of the Daily Show and Saturday Night Live, don't they? I bet you like the RW bashing there, right?

Nit-Picker!

You do get the OP is simply not true, don't you?

Ignoring the validity one way or the other of the chain-mail, Can you argue in opposition about the humor and truthful definition of "political correctness" it offers? That would be interesting.

Can I argue about the "humor"? Why would I want to do that?
Actual definition of political correctness: "agreeing with the idea that people should be careful to not use language or behave in a way that could offend a particular group of people" Politically Correct | Politically Correct Definition by Merriam-Webster

Or in other words, trying not be a dick on purpose.

I take all chain-mails at face value. I don't care if they're true or not. I simply get a kick out of some of them for their humorous value and the irony of their logical accuracy. I think this one is a champ in all categories, how about you?

Good for you! Personally I'd rather people say exactly what they think instead of puking some phony crap. Only the deceitful attempt to hide their real soul with linguistic gymnastics because they're secretly evil.

There are times when offending someone is helpful, useful, or even necessary. But political actors are rarely serving any of those causes by intentionally or unintentionally engaging in such conduct.

Well, The Donald is testing your theory with steroids. The Idiot just blew away 17 Republican opponents Seems the question is "who's the real idiots."

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump offend me. I'd call them both "dicks" even though one only has the "balls" to be a lying power mad bitch. Geee! That's not politically correct, huh?

Can I argue about the "humor"? Why would I want to do that?

You wouldn't if the only political humor you understand is when it comes from the left and is bashing the right.

Good for you. Do you got a point?

You make an assumption that Hillary is hiding something. What you are not hiding is your deep cynicism. Insults are not any more honest than diplomacy. I have a feeling that the soldiers who fight in wars have mixed feeling about their enemies. They could both hate and respect them. When people run for political office, just as when they apply for a job, we expect them to put their best face forward. Those who don't or can't come across as boorish fools.

These emails are passed around till the RWers believe them. I get dozens per month from my family and friends. When I point out one is not true and supply proof (I quit years ago) they accuse me of being one of them. My favorite is the Crystal Jail Obama built for his friends before he left Chicago. I have seen this one go by, I guess the last time was a few months ago. Every time there is the long list of disparaging remarks about the socialist, statist Muslim blah blah blah. My Mother really really believes this stuff as do so many of my other friends and family back home. I don't believe these emails are passed around for the humor, they are lies told often enough to believe. Stop the lies.
You wouldn't if the only political humor you understand is when it comes from the left and is bashing the right.

it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of s**t by the clean end!

So you're suggesting that it is impossible to phrase your ideas in a positive way even when you have a negative opinion of something? That's says more about you than it does about any kind of PC ideals.

I say, if you want to talk like a douche, talk like a douche, but don't act shocked when people tell you that you're being a douche.

But I'll bet you love and believe all of the RW bashing that went on, on the Daily Show and goes on, on Saturday Night Live, huh?

Saturday Night Live makes fun of everybody. I loved the skits they did for the primary debates.
