The events taking place in present Georgia always have an impact on Armenian Diaspora in USA. We cannot be indifferent to what is happening with our brothers there now. Georgian President Saakashvili, so highly supported by Bush administration, takes the liberty to pursue a policy of oppression in the case of Armenian population, one of the largest minorities in Georgia. The situation has come to the end of tether. Those Armenians, who live in Georgia now, even have had to renounce results of recent Georgian local elections. And the Armenian National Committee of America decided to appeal to US authorities asking them to put Saakashvili in order, because his policy of Armenian displacement from the territories of their traditional habitation in Georgia and his promotion of Turks-Meskhatins’ return to these lands leads to renewal of the Armenian genocide there. How can the leader, proclaimed the establishment of democracy in Georgia, do such things? We think it will be in the best interests of USA and the entire global community to remind overreached Georgian leader that the respect of fundamental human rights and opposition to mass slaughter on the whole territory of Georgia is US main requirement for further financing and supporting his being in power.
