“Christian nationalism is the belief that the American nation is defined by Christianity, and that the government should take active steps to keep it that way. Popularly, Christian nationalists assert that America is and must remain a “Christian nation”—not merely as an observation about American history, but as a prescriptive program for what America must continue to be in the future. Scholars like Samuel Huntington have made a similar argument: that America is defined by its “Anglo-Protestant” past and that we will lose our identity and our freedom if we do not preserve our cultural inheritance.

Christian nationalists do not reject the First Amendment and do not advocate for theocracy, but they do believe that Christianity should enjoy a privileged position in the public square. The term “Christian nationalism,” is relatively new, and its advocates generally do not use it of themselves, but it accurately describes American nationalists who believe American identity is inextricable from Christianity.”

Christian nationalist 'ReAwakening' rally, headlined by Michael Flynn, coming to Missouri

“A rally headlined by retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and an array of other speakers who tout ideals of Christian nationalism and conspiracy theories is coming to southwest Missouri later this year.

Scheduled to appear at the Freedom Encounter theater in Branson from Nov. 4-5, the event is one of more than a dozen rallies around the country featuring Flynn and his allies as part of what they call "The Great ReAwakening" tour. It is hosted by Clay Clark, an entrepreneur and podcast host based out of South Dakota.

A graphic advertising the event includes the faces of about 50 different people, though it's unclear how many of them will be present and speaking at the Branson event. Among those displayed are Flynn, MyPillow CEO and election conspiracist Mike Lindell, as well as Roger Stone, a onetime Trump confidant who was convicted during the Russia interference investigation and later pardoned by the former president.

"Just 3,000 tickets will be sold to this epic event!" the graphic declares, advertising a 50% off discount for "all pastors."

It also features advertisements for Branson and two attractions in and around the city; however, Silver Dollar City did not grant permission to the event to advertise the Showboat Branson Belle, an employee told the News-Leader. The event also did not get authorization to use "explorebranson.com" in their marketing, according to Rachel Wood, chief marketing officer for the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau. The group was working Wednesday to get the URL removed from the event's promotional materials.”

All of the progressive presidents held this view. Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and FDR were all Christians and they were all nationalists.

Christian nazis. A couple generations ago, all Christians were nazis. Today, it's only a few.

Christian Nationalism is nothing more than modern day want for Christian Theocracy in this nation, to control government and law in a manner to then go control people no matter if they agree to those social controls.

This is not about right and wrong, this is about weaponizing law here in a manner putting this nation on par with Saudi Arabia or Iran. Theocracy nations where women are controlled and monitored, LGBTQ+ people are jailed and harmed, and the most minor of crimes result in capitol punishments intentionally defying the Constitution (in several areas including expression, association, speech, and cruel and unusual punishments just to name a few.)

It is a silly idea with disastrous implications for those MAGA Republicans oppose, which is why idiots like Lauren Boebert or MTG love the idea. An avenue is created to literally create second class citizens of those they oppose.

Christianity weaponized into theocracy has always been a source of bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, isolation, division, violence, cruelty, loss of life, and epic sheer ignorance all historically proven.

MAGA Republicans want it back, running the US.

for anybody that defines it and vies like that its something that has no legit place in a country like America and will never be supported by people who respect the constitution, individual rights, freedoms and equality and i say that as a Christian myself

FACTS
Christian =/= chrisitian nationalist
nationalist =/= Christian nationalist

As Christians, we are bound to Christ, not by citizenship, but by faith. We believe that:

  • People of all faiths and none have the right and responsibility to engage constructively in the public square.
  • Patriotism does not require us to minimize our religious convictions.
  • One’s religious affiliation, or lack thereof, should be irrelevant to one’s standing in the civic community.
  • Government should not prefer one religion over another or religion over nonreligion.
  • Religious instruction is best left to our houses of worship, other religious institutions and families.
  • America’s historic commitment to religious pluralism enables faith communities to live in civic harmony with one another without sacrificing our theological convictions.
  • Conflating religious authority with political authority is idolatrous and often leads to oppression of minority and other marginalized groups as well as the spiritual impoverishment of religion.
  • We must stand up to and speak out against Christian nationalism, especially when it inspires acts of violence and intimidation—including vandalism, bomb threats, arson, hate crimes, and attacks on houses of worship—against religious communities at home and abroad.

As a person of faith, I couldn’t agree more.

Well **** them too 🤷‍♂️ but it's just funny how time and again you have to reach back at least 80 years every time you have to point out the last time the left were the racist, authoritarian pricks, while the right is doing it in broad daylight, like ****ing today.

You forgot the five Christian nationalists who now have seats on the Supreme Court and who are indeed committed to making decisions in order to “return the nation to its roots” as a “Christian nation”. We saw that with the abortion decision, but that’s just the beginning. They are also determined to have taxpayer money available to Christian-based schools. Yes, within a couple of years your tax money will be used to SUBSIDIZE those parents who are sending their children to Catholic and fundamentalist and other Christian schools. The SC Christian nationalists.are determined to overturn any law that stands in the way of their goal.. Be afraid. Be very afraid for Constitutional principles. Far right POLITICS is more important to them.

Christian Nationalism is not “nationalists who are also Christian”, but given you decided to quote that one line out of context, I doubt you’re wanting to engage honestly with this topic to begin with.

It's low rent Nazism.

True, but their views will likely be very similar.

"Christian Nationalism" is a fraud. If not for the gaggles of fools who merely attach Christianity to their angry, bigoted, ignorant beliefs in order to assign them some sort of special authority, this movement would have no political traction or significance.

Christian nationalism is .... (SNIPPED)

...when you resort to the use of nuclear threats on a neighboring country despite the fact that a nuclear bomb does not respect national borders and does not distinguish between good people and evil ones, but you seek and receive the blessing of your Christian patriarch to go ahead and use them anyway.

---Some of you may be asking how that's any different from the USA especially considering the fact that we're the only ones who have ever used a nuke so far.
Here's the difference: Putin WILL without question seek the blessings of his patriarch, Bishop Kirill, and he WILL advertise this fact heavily to the Russian people, either before or after he drops the bombs.

Here in the USA, we used it in time of war where the adversary had declared war on US and used it only in defense, plus.....................................

WE NEVER ASKED FOR THE BLESSINGS OF ANY GODDAMN CHURCH.

You're playing fast and loose with the facts. Roosevelt didn't support a theocracy like the Christian nationalists.
Stress on ecumenism and lack of doctrinal specificity
For many evangelicals, this is the most disturbing part of TR’s faith. As an adult, Roosevelt grew increasingly broad-minded about religious belief. This had its positive side, as he refused to discriminate against Roman Catholics and appointed the first Jewish American, Oscar Straus, to a cabinet position in 1906. However, Roosevelt’s ecumenism was also ideological: he believed that people could believe whatever they wished about God as long as they were personally moral. The most famous instance of this attitude occurred in 1908, when Roosevelt’s friend William Howard Taft was running for president. Conservative Protestants accused Taft (accurately) of being a Unitarian—that is, a member of a sect that denies Jesus’ divinity. Although TR stayed on the sidelines during the election, privately he derided the “bigoted” and “narrow-minded” Protestants who opposed Taft and later stated publicly that Taft’s theological beliefs were between himself and God.

The fact that they were Christians does in any way mean that they would support a Christian government, despite
the 1st amendment.

I am a Christian and a bit of a nationalist, but that doesn’t mean I am a Christian nationalist.

Having two beliefs does not mean one melds those beliefs.

I think the US laws should be secular but allow me free to live my faith. If my neighbor doesn’t agree with my faith, that’s their thing. I don’t mess with them and they don’t mess with me.

The term may be new - but the sentiment, not so.

Christian nationalists assert that America is and must remain a “Christian nation”...
Surely, Christians among the first settlers/pioneers in this country had felt that same "CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM," though they haven't had a name for it.

Overwhelming majority were Christians. From various parts of Europe.
They braved and forged a new land.
To many of them - they saw the new land as their "promised land."
A feeling of territorial privilege, must've been overwhelming!

Christian nationalism does not mean a Christian theocracy like the Vatican. Christians in general support enlightenment ideals and tolerance - which you will never find in Islamic countries.

TR was a very religious person, a racist, and a nationalist. He supported all kinds of dumbass, leftist policies consistent with nationalism:
