What is Behind The Right’s Obsession with Ocasio-Cortez?

Their terrified of her because the last time and smart, ambitious, and attractive democrat came onto the national political scene the conservatives were out of power for 8 years. They consider her a huge threat for that reason only.

Lol no, thats ridiculous. At the moment, she is a greater threat to liberals than conservatives.

Partly it’s her ebullience. She seems upbeat and sunny, and this bothers their sour faces.

Well, JackA, perhaps it would do to ask Republicans and conservatives, rather than asking an open rhetorical question to just then attribute the worst motivations of everyone on the right who criticizes her. I dislike her because she is a socialist who is anti-Israel and whose economic policies while popular, would quickly bankrupt the country far more quickly than it is presently being bankrupted. She is essentially a young hispanic female with the mind of Jeremy Corbyn*. I do not see how I am obligated to like her or not pass judgment on her public statements.

Not close.

I think Fletch hit the nail on the head. Democrats made fun of Sarah Palin for being a crazy, incompetent politician whose political ideology would wreck the country. People on the right are doing the same thing to Ms. Ocasio-Cortez.

*EDIT: Although I would like to point out, Jeremy Corbyn is far more polite than Ocasio-Cortez and is willing to debate opponents who disagree with him ideologically.

She is Trump-like in her lack of understanding that enacting policy (making federal laws) actually requires details and procedural steps. After all, she has stated that once she is "inaugurated" then she would "sign bills" the next day.

Unlike they treat Trump, the MSM either ignores her general naivety and playing fast and loose with 'facts' or actually praises those traits.

She's brown-skinned, young and says sensible things. Of course the Right fears and hates her.

Calamity goes straight to race. What a shocker. The truth is, if I am going to be ruled by a dumb-ass socialist, I would much prefer it to be a hot chick like her than some Bernie Sanders lookin moron. But you go ahead and stick to the only thing you know how to do--race bait.

The chick is hot and looks happy.

She was probably a great bar tender.

Her good looks and bubbly personality probably helped a great deal when she hogged the tips.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a symbol of everything conservatives and possibly even liberals despise. She's new to the 'game', she's young, Latina, ambitious and eager to effect some progressive ideas into a staunchly stagnant Congress. Because of her impatience to make change, those of the old guard in Congress will view her as displaying too much 'Latinatude' and feel threatened sensing that she's trying to muscle into their inner circle. They're going to resist it.

She's setting a big agenda for herself. Rather than worrying about expanding the Democratic majority in the House two years from now or taking back the Senate, the newly elected socialist from New York has a different target in mind. She’s heading up a new coalition aimed at removing more Democrats in the next round of primaries and replacing them with more “diverse” candidates.

Personally, I'm not aboard the Ocasio-Cortez train. Her ambitious ideology is going to put her in a bad spot with both conservatives and liberals since she's trying to change Washington too rapidly. They see her as overly ambitious and she's not even sworn in yet. She's completely inexperienced as to the ways of Washington politics. Some will see that as refreshing and some will see that as challenging their own status. She's not going to concern herself with the prospect of waging war within her own party and because of that her best efforts will be thwarted. She's going to have to get some experience in politics under her belt and back off just a bit and work with her party, not against it if she's ever going to be taken seriously.

Sensible?

There is no such thing as talking about class without there being implications of the racial history of the United States. You just can't do it. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

This chick is an idiot. That said, though, it is very likely that she will be a very successful Democrat-Socialist.

 No :)

It's because it's fun to do "Nutpicking" - where you pick the member of the other team who exhibits a trait you wish to either try to make representative of the movement, or abuse. In her case, it's the ignorance (which, is why all the memes about her that are intended to be funny emphasize stupidity as a theme).

I keep at least somewhat informed of conservative commentary and the conservative discussion in the United States. I cannot think, offhand, of anyone who considers her a huge threat.

Both of your responses are confusing "Why You Like Her" with "Therefore Conservatives Must Dislike/Fear That".

No surprise in this.

The Press is committed to the double standard they constantly impose on every story they publish/broadcast.

They are a disgrace to the tradition they never did follow, but present as a guide and goal.

Leni Riefenstahl is their guide.

Maybe the "right" is "obsessed" with Ms. Alexandria because the "right" is shocked that there are enough (presumably) citizens who would vote for such a silly individual.

Maybe the "right" is downright depressed that maybe our country will soon be full of people like Ms. Alexandria in important elected positions.

Healthcare as a human right,

it means that every child, no matter where you are born, should have access to a college or trade-school education if they so choose it, and I think no person should be homeless if we can have public structures and public policy to allow for people to have homes and food and lead a dignified life in the United States. "The Right"?

It is pretty obvious that "the Right" has a pretty good idea what the folks on the coasts are thinking.

Ocasio-Cortez seems to personify what the "The Right" feels the coastal folks aspire to impose upon them.

The differences in thinking pits the ideals of individualists in the fly-over country against the hive mentality gripping those on the coasts.

Thank God for the Constitution!

Liberals thought Palin’s battiness and ignorance were a danger. Alexandria is neither batty or ignorant

I can't name a single issue with roots in race that doesn't have economic implications, and I cannot think of a single economic issue that doesn't have racial implications. The idea that we have to separate them out and choose one is a con. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
