I agree completely, a country as wealthy and powerful as the United States should rank #1 in the world for healthcare. Yet, according to a new study from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington, the U.S. ranked #27th in the world for it's levels, not only on healthcare, but in education.
The idea of nationalized healthcare isn't some novel new idea on the part of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, it's an ideology shared by many of her predecessors, Bernie Sanders being the most recent. And yeah, it's a wonderful dream but in the U.S. that's all it is, a dream. Good intentions are easy but developing and presenting the actual living model of socialized medicine is not realistic.
Here's some of the hurdles that 'healthcare for all' will have to jump over. First and foremost, the idea of healthcare being a profitable business must be abandoned. That means pharmaceutical companies, physicians, hospitals, medical supply companies, oxygen companies, home infusion companies, medical science labs and etc. will have to give up their huge profits. Medical research and development will stagnant without the rewards of vast amounts of cash as their objective.
You have a closed view of this.
In the US, we are forced to not buy drugs from abroad in spite of the reduced pricing there.
Remove this one prohibition and the price of US healthcare decreases by a whole bunch in that one area immediately.
Tort reform is another area that might help. Playing defensive medicine is costly.
Prior to the establishment of the US Department of Education, the US was ranked number one in education world wide. Now, as you observe, we have fallen way behind.
This is pretty much the track record of most things after the Feds get their hands on them. Our kids can no longer add and subtract or understand history or quote Shakespeare, but they know that social awareness is the most important thing on Earth.
We have REAL problems with our Federal Government overreaching in all areas.
As Reagan said regarding the actions of the government: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it.
He also said that the most terrifying thing anyone can say is: I'm from the government. I'm here to help you.
There is a special kind of stupid that accompanies the actions of the Federal Government.
When the federal government decided that it was against the law for one woman to object to the display of another woman's penis in the wash room, we jumped the shark as a nation.
