What does "maga" mean?

MAGA is just another con by the greatest con man that has ever entered the political arena in America.

All he is really for is wealth and power.

He used the Rush Limbaugh model all the way to the white house. He plays on the disenfranchised white working class loss of standard of living. He gives them an enemy to blame it on. He feeds their inner hatred, bigotry and fear.

The real cause of the demise of the white working class is republican policies dating back to Reagan. But right wing media like the republican party exist to protect/increase the wealth of the wealthy to the detriment of 90% of Americans.

Yep. You wanna compare points to see which perspective is most supported?

Careful. It is tricky to discuss facts with someone those who are brainwashed and delusional. This is the same guy who says we no longer have principles, but they used to in the good old days - but that they aren't old fashioned principles. They are new. Can't quite wrap my head around how that means America is not a great country and what exactly we need to go back to.

First of all the slogan was stolen from Reagan in 1980 or you can even go further back and it was Mussolini's slogan

Ronald Reagan for President "Let's Make America Great Again" 1980

"Let's Make America Great Again" was one of Ronald Reagan's most famous campaign slogans during his 1980 campaign for President of the United States.

Good point about Benito. But really MAGA is a misspelling. Trump’s true message was indeed a look back to another time, but it really MAHA, Make America Hate Again, i.e., let’s revive the ethnic, racial and nativist divisions of the past

Also fascinating, how so many of these “good old days” folks weren’t even alive in the times they refer to.

I remember Curtis Mathis TVs. I remember riding my bike across town to school. I remember saying the pledge of allegiance at school and saluting the flag. I remember when Democrats did, too.

MAGA Means:
1. Tax cuts for the wealthy, corporations
2. stack the courts with corrupted (partisan/ideologically challenged), conservative, federalist society judges
3. stick it to the libs/Dems!
Most Trump supporters support MAGA just for #3.
Evangelicals 2,3.
Right wing establishment, representatives, and wealthy/corporations know the real policy change was all for #1, greed at the expense of the middle/lower class.

was relatively great BEFORE globalism ****ed everything up.

That's even dumber than communism. You must really hate America.

Hahaha, I looked it up on wikipedia:
The term is now frequently used as a pejorative by far-right movements and conspiracy theorists. Usage in this way has also been associated with anti-semitism, as anti-semites frequently appropriate the word globalist for Jews.[3][4][5]
Followers of the QAnon conspiracy theory use "The Cabal" to refer to a secret worldwide elite organisation who wish to undermine democracy and freedom, and implement their own globalist agendas.[32]

They know your gig. When in reality, globalism first appeared as literally Keep America Great!

The term first came into widespread usage in the United States.[13] The modern concept of globalism arose in the post-war debates of the 1940s in the United States.[14] In their position of unprecedented power, US planners formulated policies to shape the kind of postwar world they wanted, which, in economic terms, meant a globe-spanning capitalist order centered exclusively upon the United States

You really should stay away from wiki.

Since I've repeatedly given the definition of Globalism here on DP, all you really need to do is a simple forum search.

But I'll save you the trouble.

Here's a good article on the pros and cons of globalism.

Stay away from wikipedia, as you routinely quote Conservative Treehouse and Fox links....you're so funny.

Now that people know how the term originated, they also know the pejorative used by right wing conspiracy theory nuts. Which one are you...so obvious.

Wait wait. This is too good. American capitalists are the ones who sought out foreign markets for their goods/sevices AND outsourced all our labor overseas at cheaper rates, reducing American labor/jobs/pay. And Republicans just gave corporations/wealthy a giant tax cut....you reward the "globalists'!! What a joke of position you hold.

thank you .........

It means the same thing it meant when they called themselves confederates then eventually called themselves true Americans then eventually called themselves the moral majority then eventually call themselves the tea party.

I know what MAGA stands for, Make America Great Again. The question I have is what do you mean when you say "MAGA:? What made America great in the past that we don't have now? Furthermore, how does Trump or current Republican party embody whatever your answer is?

Trump borrowed a lot from Reagan, with similar results. Slogan, short term populist policies, supply side economics, suger fix economic growth, increasing deficits/debt, protectionist tariffs on imports. I figure Trump looked at how popular Reagan was and tried to imitate much of that without the charisma and core values. Trump adapted his approach to appeal to a more 'me, me, me' 'Kahdashian' America.

Trump never even achieved a fraction of Reagan era economic growth.

MAGA has become to me is a Republican Party who has thrown their long held conservative values out the window to follow one man who has no political ideology. We have a party who stands for one man with no values

Well it was never about the ideology, ultimately. All that ideology stuff was just a front for what's really bugging them: racism. And Trump put his finger right where it hurt, and that's why he owns them now. He really did "say it like it is".

Build back better is a fundamental change to America; tearing down the existing structure and replacing it with some ideal contrived at Davos or beltway cocktail parties or in the case of Obama at the knee of Frank Marshall Davis.

Making America Great again ....again is emphasis on what makes America great. Families, work, freedom. The great melting pot where immigrants come here legally to become Americans. Energy independence, fair trade, opportunity, free from foreign entanglements not in our interest, America first unapologetically.......
To continue with the building metaphor, MAGA shores up the foundations, plugs the leaks and addresses years of deferred maintenance. The bones are good. The constitution is good. America is good.

It means the same thing as "Build Back Better," which is essentially nothing unless you view it through the lens of the party platform.

In other words, it's a slogan to represent the party platform.

That's an uplifting, positive spin on MAGA, leaving aside Trump's anti-legal immigrant policies and rhetoric, and the fascist roots of the America First phrase. (Name a time when we didn't put America first.) But there is a negative, frightening side of Trump's use of MAGA, and that is the fascist-like harkening back to a past glory, one that doesn't include minorities or women in positions of power, one whose leader says things like "I alone can fix it." And I have posited that his message really was MAHA, Make America Hate Again, given all the groups Trump disparaged or tried to make us fearful of.

And from what I understand of Frank Marshall Davis, one could do worse than to be influenced by him. Beats Mussolini.

A time? Now comes to mind..... this past year from day 1 of Biden.

Reads ok until you stop to think about what you actually wrote. BBB is mostly a collection of propossls that are well established in other wealthy democracies. They are not 'cocktail party' concepts. The argument is that America is falling behind the developed world in social performance in many ways, which is also impacting economic performance. You can agree or not with the policies, but characterizing them as liberal stupidity, or the rise of crazy socialism etc is incorrect.

Fair trade was definitely not part of Trumps agenda. It was 'America first' trade, and imo the country will long term pay a price for the protectionist policies. America can leverage the size of it's market only until all the rest of the world is connected in free trade and don't need to sell to the US. Even Canada and Mexico have joined a free trade agreement (4th largest in world) that will reduce their reliance on the US as the agreement kicks in over the coming years. Protectionism is a proven long term economic failure.

There are lots of immigrants who would come legally if the system supported that. Trouble is that few of them have the desirable professional skills the country wants. The US is no longer the sole global 'mecca' for migrating professionals, with many other attractive, wealthy countries competing for that limited resource.

Whilst I agree with some of what Trumps maga movement tried to do, a lot of it seemed very short term and focussed on populist ideals rather than building a long term better future.
