There is always alot of bickering between Republicans/Democrats and Conservatives/Liberals in these forums and many other forums for debate. In another forum I participate in, that has nothing to do with politics, we do have a general discussion area where we do somewhat discuss political issues (although without nearly the amount of research and partisanship in here). What I found in there is that most of us have slight leanings toward conservative or liberal leanings, there were certain issues that we would change sides on. Like I have said before I consider my self a fiscal conservative, but very slightly libertarian on social issues. So I classify myself as an independent or a moderate overall. And most of the people I talk to are the same.

To paraphrase, in this forum what is your opinion of people who are independent/moderates in their overall views??

I tend to be an Economic Liberal and in the same right I am a social conservative. I am not registered to an independant party but to the Democratic Party. I think Moderates are the one who can and should knock self righteous extremists on both sides of the Political spectrum off their pedestals and bring them back down to earth to the Level of the majority of Americans.

Moderates and centrists are the only ppl that get things to move.
I truly wish there were more independents because partisanship is just blindly following party bickering - that gets us no where.

It's really sad how political partys upon interactions show themselves as no more then mere kindergarden bullies. Grow up America, these guys are not and will never be on your side. Be an independent, make choices for yourself.

I used to tell people I was an independent but for some reason the term indpendent became synonymous with the Ralph Nader ideology, so now I just call myself non partisan or non affiliated.

I have come to notice than many in independents tend to be either rabid conservatives or liberals. I consider myself moderate/centrist when it comes to my views socially and more conservative fiscally.

I am independent and my view is that independents are people that will follow the most logical course of action. They are not to be tied down with party lines, they do what they think is best in the given situation. I know lots of independents and they are strong conservatives or strong liberals, but they just can't stand the party platforms and how corrupt the government is with the system that we have.

If it weren't for independents, Republicans and Democrats wouldn't have anyone to steal idea's from!!

Eh, whatever. I think it's a good thing they remind the Republicans and Democrats-- occasionally-- that there are people who do not share their diseased political ideologies and aren't caught up in their football hooliganism.

On the other hand, the way our political system is designed, they aren't allowed to accomplish anything important... except, again occasionally, to prevent the extremists of one side or another from doing something really stupid.

In general....I find those who are Moderate in practice (regardless of party label) are the only ones who try to debate here. The extremes on both sides of this fractured political fiction we call American Politics tend to repeat the garbage spewed by Media, and Leadership, rather than attempt to formulate an opinion of their own.
I tend to appreciate the Moderate mindset far more than the extremes, as they have something I want to hear...original thought.

I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I embrace conservative values on certain issues and on other issues I embrace liberal values. I think people should analyze every issue independent of any rigid party doctrine. Lol, I've got this strange aversion to allowing other people to think for me.

If you are basically a moderate like me and do not blindly accept either conservative or liberal dogma, I encourage you to join the Centrist usergroup here at Debate Politics.

It is to bad that Right Wing Radicals cannot stop insulting and making negative inuendos. Most people are probably Independents and Moderates.

don't forget it was the barrage of lies that got Bush elected, by these very people, who seem to vote for one thing and then another.

Here is the way it is.

Way out on the extreme right, are about 25% of the people see moderates and independents being on the left, only, because they are so far out on the rightWing fringe.

for many years until the second term of Reagan, I was a moderate Republican. I was registered Republican. I voted for Reagan one time.

Since the Republican party was usurped by the Extreme Right, being a moderate, I became a Democrat.

Centrist can see complexity. The radicals on both the left and the right already have the answers and whatever problem comes along gets mashed to fit their solution.

Too bad the democrats have been taken over by the radical left as well.

Your post just exudes a moderate outlook.
