What Democrats did to Illinois

If you can’t see how unfettered availability of guns -especially high powered, highcapacity weapons -are bad for crime in large cities, you’re clearly too far gone to be able to grasp an explanation.
Here, just follow Chris Rock's advice ;)

How to not get your ass kicked by the police

Very readable and interesting twitter thread regarding the intractable economic problems of Illinois.

But they do keep the electricity on during the winter. Something red Texas can't manage to do.

In August 2019 I started a thread about a prime example of an obscure policy decision that points directly at the core nature of Illinois' public sector fiscal crisis.

It is an interesting read .. Chicago currently owes roughly $33Billion to it's pension funds, They have boxed themselves into being liable for pension payments, maintaining healthcare benefits and establishing a funding pool to be 90%+ funded by 2045. Chicago definitely needs to revisit pension and consider reform or it will continue to be unsustainable.

You would think a liberal strong hold would be a utopia, and we are seeing quite the opposite outcome.
You might also think a state like Kentucky would do a better job of managing its public sector pensions, but "In 2019, the Kentucky Employees Retirement System was only 16.5% funded, making it one of the worst-funded pension plans in the country, according to data from the Center on Retirement Research at Boston College."

There is no single person more responsible for the situation in Illinois than Mike Madigan.

People that complain about Chicago have never lived there and would never live there. Why should people in Chicago care what they think? I've lived there, and it's a great city to raise your family in. It really is very nice.

If anyone has any inclinations about moving to/living in Chicago/Chicagoland Area, please ignore the haters in this thread.
You lived in a nice neighborhood.....every city has those...just like every city has bad neighborhoods.
But how do YOU judge places you have never been to?
But the nice neighborhoods or what the news tells you, statistics or reputation?
Chicago has always had a reputation for corrupt politics....much has been verified by history books.
Now Chicago has managed to have the most killings in their history for the year of 2021. Nice city?
Even 50 or 60 years ago there were areas that you just didn't go to after dark.
And during the day there were areas clearly defined by gangs that you also didn't enter.
All that has changed is that those areas are now measured in sq. miles instead of blocks.
In the 70's I spend a lot of time in Chicago going to concerts.
On one summer night I went to the Chicago Stadium for a rock concert.
Beautiful day, nice walk down the sidewalk into the stadium.
After the concert it was dark.
The sidewalk was now littered with bodies, drunk or drugged, leaning against the fences.
Those that weren't "loaded" were begging for money and trying to accost any single female walking along the sidewalk.
But I guess you never saw that in that "great city to raise your family in"
Because you didn't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.
Everyone wears blinders when they don't want to see something.

The Illinois State House has allowed Satanists to set up a Satanic display for the 3rd year in a row.

That should tell you something.

"Growing crime" typically happens during economic crises. And, Uncle Sam has been on a Covid Binge now for two years since it started in the late 2019 (officially 17 November 2019) - we are now lurching into 2022.

And, it may be dying with its latest version (Omicron) showing itself far lower (but nonetheless deadly) in kill-rates but still deadly. British data (in the present short-run) confirms a much slower kill-rate for this version. We can only hope that such is true in the long-run and - though there are deaths - humanity will survive.

But the death-rate is NOT zero! So, attention is still necessary. Let's keep wearing the mask in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES when in a public-place with other people around whether they are wearing a mask or stoopidly not wearing one!

Well worth a read -
How well do face masks protect against coronavirus?

Excerpt:
Can face masks help slow the spread of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19? Yes. Face masks combined with other preventive measures, such as getting vaccinated, frequent hand-washing and physical distancing, can help slow the spread of the virus.

They allow freedom of worship? They allow a menorah and a nativity inside their Capitol.

“Conservatives” again showing they don’t want freedom of religion.

Ya just don't get it do ya??

I called those satanists out as harassing their fellow citizens when they did it three years ago (probably longer). However, they are still allowed to do it because we have freedom of religion. If you allow one religion inside your state Capitol, you must allow all the others.

No, I get it. You want freedom of your religion.
Never said anything about they can't practice their religion...

There are all kinds of weird religions... the state shouldn't be celebrating them either.

America was founded as a Christian nation, and the bible is the basis of our culture and common law.

We don't have national holidays recognizing and celebrating Satan, we have national holidays recognizing and celebrating Jesus Christ.

You may hate Christianity and hate America, but that's the culture you were born into.

No, you don't need to allow religions of hate and values antithetical to the foundations of our country to be celebrated on government property.

They can do whatever they want as free citizens, but that doesn't mean "we the people" should be endorsing their craziness and hatred.

Oh look.

A guy went to a concert 40 years ago in Chicago. So he knows the city.

No- lots of parts of chicago are just peachy.

And most of the middle class folks I know like it just fine.

Travel a block or two from those parts and it's not so peachy.

Top reasons why people leave blue city Chicago

  • The high living costs make it hard for people to manage. ...
  • A lack of investments is one of the main reasons why people leave Chicago. ...
  • The extremely cold winters are not to everyone’s liking. ...
  • Traffic and public transport don’t function that well. ...
  • One of the reasons why people leave Chicago are high crime rates. ...

We left because of the winters and for better career opportunities in San Diego 1986. Since we've left the city has progressively gotten worse in all the areas above.

Gotten worse?

Wrong, as usual.

1) high living costs are a part of living in a place lots of people want to be in. Seems like a San Diegan would get it.

2) lack of investments? This city has grown tremendously since 1986. I mean- as of last year there were 35 high rise buildings being built in the city- including three of the top 10 tallest in the city.

3) cold winters are not really ‘extreme’, and they are substantially warmer since the mid 1980s, for reasons most people understand by now.

4) traffic is not good, and has certainly gotten worse since 1986, but it’s much better than many cities, and the public transit is quite good- with an extensive and growing subway/El and commuter rail.

5) crime has dropped substantially since the mid 1980s, as it has in most of the country.

In 1986, the city of Chicago was far worse than what we've seen in the past 10 years. Chicago continued to worsen until the mid 1990's, and has entered a renaissance as of late. However, such monetary successes come with costs. With the influx of educated, six-figure earning millennials that now reside in Chicago's West Loop, Old Town, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, etc... the demand for intoxicants corresponds with said growth. The various street gangs that dominate the south and west sides of the city will continue to fight it out in order to tighten their grip on drug supply.

Jesus, you work for Lightfoot or something?

The city/state have been bleeding people like crazy. Anyone who can is getting out. The crime is awful, the public schools a joke, the infrastructure a disaster meanwhile the state/local government just wants more and more in taxes.

No.

States with older / larger municipalities have always been bleeding people like crazy. You're repeating the same shit from 25, 50, ... , 100 years ago. If what you say is true, the price of real estate wouldn't have quadrupled in the past 25 years. That's why people move... so they can live in a bigger space....

And enjoy 79° late Decembers.

Except for the murders. And the smash and grabs. And the auto thefts.

the public schools a joke
Standardized test scores are piss-poor, but they made sure all Chicago school bathrooms are Gender Neutral (and thus easily accessible for future rapists)!

Yeah, surprise, crime is a systemic issue with underlying causes and isn't just an indictment of the character of a group of individuals.

This isn't a disputable opinion, it's just ****ing facts.
Americans seem uniquely incapable of understanding sociological research. Buh buh it wasnt MY! Experience!
