What constitutes a GOP win?

Lots of talk about the Dems taking the house or the senate or both. Either would be a 'win' for the Dems; both woulf be a big win.

With these expectations, what constitutes a win for the GOP?

Ok, I guess I should have included a poll.

Only losing the House.

Retaining control over both houses.......

Given the expectations, I think that the GOP would exceed expectations if they keep both houses...a feat which is not all that implausible. Whether or not that is really a "win" is a matter of opinion, as they'd still be losing seats.

That would be a successful defense, but I'm not sure I would call it a win. In any case, I'm sure the Dems will declare a moral victory if they don't lose any more seats.

The most succinct statement I've heard on the subject is attributed to Thomas Sowell: "The Republicans are a disappointment, but the Democrats are dangerous." IMO, that says it all.

WIN = keeping both houses

LOSS = losing both houses

DRAW = keeping one but losing the other

This is part of the problems with US politics, who ‘wins’. I think it is fair to say that what is good for the whole is good for the both parties. The simple fact of the matter is that having one party control the white house, house and senate is bad for everyone. A Republican ‘win’ would be to lose the house or the senate, but not the other. That way they could still dictate some policy, but not go totally overboard like anyone does when they have that much power.

Huge Win, gain seats in both houses, and the majority of Governors Offices.

Draw, lose seats but keep Both Houses, and lose the majority of Governors Offices.

Loss, lose one House, and lose the majority of Governors Offices.

Huge Loss, lose both houses, and lose the majority of Governors Offices.

If the Republicans keep both houses the democrats will say the elections were stolen.........That is what they did in 2000, 2002, and 2004 and will do in all elections in the near future.....................They just don't get it that most Americans don't buy the Liberal way of life......

How about we become a real democracy and have more then one ruling party and more then two competing parties?

Are you simply making a blanket statement to try and degrade the value of an opposing party? Damn the consequences? Everyone tries to choose the lesser of two evils in what they feel is right. EVERYONE damn's the consequences that they do not feel are important enough.

Any instance you can name a single party ignoring consequences the opposing party is doing the same with different consequences. Iraq for example: Liberals want to start pulling out leaving Iraq to fend of itself; Iraq's well being is the consequence. Conservatives want to stay in Iraq; America's well being is the consequence.

Well, the mass media and the Democrat party have clearly made "winning both houses an easy attainable goal".

If the Democrats don't win both houses, it's a major loss for them.

Actually, the Dems have tied themselves into a corner.... they HAVE to win both houses, or it's a "major defeat" for the democrats.

All the GOP has to do is not lose too much, to be considered victors. My money is on the Democrats picking up about 3 seats in the Senate, and maybe 5-6 in the House.

That would be a major defeat for the Democrats imho, since they have all but "Dewey beats Truman"ed themselves in this campaign.

My question would be... should the Dems "not" run away with this election, will they question themselves as to "why" they didn't win, or will they do what they've done the past 6 years and blame everything but thmeselves & their 'message'? If they don't win, then stick a fork in the Democrats, they are done. If they can't win in this election, with as much bs as the GOP has pulled, then it's pretty clear to me that the Dem "message" resonates with about 10% of the population and the rest of the % that votes for them votes for them because they "aren't" the GOP, not because they agree with the DNC, and all of the US would be much better off with a different party, one more mature and mainstream, to challenge the GOP.

First they need to get their candidates out on bail.
