What comes to your mind if you think of Canada?

And you probably think it's because of the U.S. being there. If it were Lower Slobovia below the 49th, the majority of Canadians would still be living within 100 miles of it - - and quite probably consider it an improvement over the present situation.

Some of the best vacations I've ever had. Remember actually going to a real estate office on the Sunshine Coast...lol, like we could afford that... But a dream. Also loved Quebec City....whale watching in Tadoussac....took the kids to Canada's Wonderland, too many to list. Canada is great, best neighbor anyone could ever have.
 
The fact that everyone is either a mounty or a maple sryup farmer.
Those are the only 2 jobs available.

The same as the only 2 jobs in London is chimney sweep or pickpocket.
Everything else is fake news.

The fact that you don't understand why that is says volumes about your lack of knowledge on early North American history.

The practice does however, decades predate that period of Bush's admin. with American's when travelling abroad "Flag Jacking" the Canadian flag to disguise themselves as Canadians dating back to the era of the Vietnam war.

The odd report of instances whereupon this is happening today are causing seasoned travelers to advise against the practice:
“It used to be a little point of pride for Canadians that Americans would want to pretend to be us when abroad,” says Andy, a Canadian reader. “But now? With the U.S. actively trying to attack Canada? Absolutely not. The feeling towards the U.S. in Canada is absolutely toxic right now, to levels I didn’t think were possible.”

“We will now call you out,” agrees Bruce, another Canadian. “It’s really offensive, pretending you’re anything like us.”

It therefore would, and always has been, hardly likely Canadians living in proximity to the 49th, being for instances of any kind of aspirational "Americanism".

Smoke. For 5 years in a row now it seems, bad summer skies from all the smoke caused by Canadian wildfires.
 
Beneath other - my Dad. Canada was his dream destination altough he did not speak English. He never went there although we kids could have made that possible in his later ages. Reminds me a bit of the childrens book from Janosch "The Trip to Panama". I assume he probably did not go because he did not want to cancel his dreams

Love your addendum reference to Jefferson; the hypocrite spouting about "equal rights" of individuals but owning over 600 slaves during his lifetime and keeping a concubine locked up in his basement with whom he fathered at least four children of record.

A testament to the ironic nature of the lacking American "ethos".
 
Well, I will take instruction from Canadians when you discover the wheel.
