We seem to know the usual stereotypes of certian political parties like for example when My grandfather my age the repuclicans were the party of the rich man the democrats were the party of the poor working man.But what are today's stereotypes of your political affiliation?

Ooooooh good idea for a thread. Heres my favorite comparison. When picking between democrats or republicans you're picking between big government or big brother.

Socialists go to the left, evangelicals go to the right, and libertarians go no where because they get no votes.

We know that stereotype is not longer true considering the size of goverment increased under the Bush Administration.

Socialists go to the left, evangelicals go to the right, and libertarians go no where because they get no votes.

I think another stereotype is that liberals are for gun bans and conservative are for private ownership of guns.

I think some of the stereotypes of the GOP are in your signature JR.

"There is a big difference between fighting for civil rights and fighting for homosexual marriage you moron.

There is a big difference for fighting for the equality of all men despite their race and fighting for perversion you idiot."

There is no room for deabate, no tolerance for diversity, and those that don't agree are "morons" or "idiots"

And BTW - Dems don't want to take away your guns. They would like to enforce current legislation and make it so that 20 of the 25 9/11 terrorists wouldn't be able to legally buy guns.

Dems Backbone--College kids with little work experience
Blacks
Hispanics
People who don't like the Bush and have to feel like their on a big team to feel they're doing something. This group is getting hit up for votes especially because all the Dems do on Foriegn Policy issues is bash Bush.

Republicans--Crazy evangelicals like Falwell
Private gun owners
Blacks--as long as they have a last name like Rice and went to Stanford and are anti-affirmative action and are black/a woman/lebian(???) in order to show they're not racist, sexist, or homophobic(?)
Hispanics--As long as they support NSA wiretaps
People who don't like Kerry/Clinton (the communist one that drove her own husband to the other side) and have to feel they're on the winning side. These types will support any war for freedom as long as American flags are waving.

Centrists or Independents:

Fence sitters, wishy-washy, lacking commitment.

Let see how I stack up to the stereotypes

Republican... are you a...

Crazy evangelical: No

Private gun owner: No

White: No

Rich: No

Person who doesn't like Kerry/Clinton: Yes

Crazy enviromentalist: No

Private gun owner: Yes

White: Yes

Rich: No

Person who doesn't like Bush/Cheney: Yes

libertarians - greedy and only care about their own bottom line. Drug addicts or social deviants in one way, shape, or form.

Republican - pro big business, pro wealthy, pro tax cut, pro borrowing and debt, religiously intolerant, pro using US military for international relations, pro big oil, anti gays, anti abortion, anti internationalism, pro government power.

Democrat - pro worker, pro fiscal responsibility, pro tax increase, pro diplomacy, pro multinationalism, pro choice, pro environment, pro separation of church and state.

Aaaah this is easy.

The conservatives are rich, selfish, god fearing, uptight, and while not having good sex they manage to have boat loads of children and they live mostly in flyover country. Old stuffy men in suits.

The democrats are poor generally having some sort of minority assoication more likely to go to jail, hug a tree, eat granola, and have femi nazi females. They like to live near water. Young hip hippies and tramp stamps :rofl

stereotypes for both parties as I see them:

Both parties only care about what the other party hates. They aggravate each other up the wall and can't agree on nothing except they want higher salaries and longer vacations. They promise the moon but once in office they forget anything and everyone except who is lobbying them. They are over indulgent, lazy people who can't do anything right except during voting season. Then they come out of the woodwork to say, "Hey gay marriage, now this is a serious issue!"

I love it when they tell you that is the easy stance. I don't see how it is easy when we don't have people on the ballots in most places.

I thought that sex study from last year said that conservatives tend to enjoy sex more. Or was it republicans... whichever.

My problem is that nobody will let me put my round peg into their square hole.

Because of my beliefs regarding being pro-life, pro-gun, small government, no free ride, my 30' foot flagpole, anti-illegal immigrants, pro-military, the leftwingers will not let me ride in their VW hippy bus.

And because I do not feel I have any right to shove my beliefs down your throat and make you abide by them, and my "don't give a damn if queers get married" position, pro-legalization of marijuana, against forcing American ideals on sovereign nations, pro-the little guy, added to my abilty to see through the O'Reilly, Rove, Coulter and Whitehouse BS, the rightwinger's won't let me come play in their stalag.

It's mighty lonesome being me........:(

Sounds like someone might want to look into Libertarianism...(virtual repeated elbow nudges) eh? eh?

Ms. Kelzie defined me as a Libertarian as well. Honestly, I don't really even know what that means.

I see no need to label myself or lock myself into a particular party's ideology. I kinda like just being me. Free to think what I want regardless of the party platform.

I come from a world of thought that says, "If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's most likely a duck." Unfortunantly, the republicans are too heavy into spin and lies these days to adhere to that philosophy and the democrats, well, they are just clueless idiot's to me. (Although, they are much more fun to be around. )

Captain America,

I like to think we all are like that in some ways. I just find that I tend to agree with Rep more them Dems.

Course we are. We're hotter.

Negative stereotypes I've heard about liberals (which I don't feel are accurate at all):

Anti-american
Wishing to allow terrorists and felons to just walk free or get a light slap on the wrist, regardless of guilt or innocence.
Drug users
Wanting to allow "reverse discrimmination"
Anti-religion

Geekybrunette,

Some of these are accurate to some degree.

Anti-American... yes/no

Wishing to allow terrorists and felons to just walk free or get a light slap on the wrist, regardless of guilt or innocence.....No

Drug users.....Yes/No

Wanting to allow "reverse discrimination"....Yes for the most part

Anti-religion... Yes if you mean anti-Christian.

Geekybrunette, welcome to the forum! :2wave:

Don't let Ivana scare you off. He is impotent and harmless.

Misconceptions about Libertarians.

Liberals think we're Republicans and Republicans think we're Liberals, and we think you're idiots.

"libertarians - greedy and only care about their own bottom line. Drug addicts or social deviants in one way, shape, or form."

Well as a libertarian... I can't really evaluate my own greediness but i don't thing I am.
Not a drug addict.
Not an anarchist. More of the pro-capitalist brand of libertarian.
Yeah no real home for the libertarians these days, although theres a few moderate libertarians in the parties, but they're rare.
