Do you think gun use will change as a result of a not guilty decision?

Not really.

I think any CCWers who have been paying attention have picked up on the following:

1. Even if you act in self-defense, the legal and media aftermath can be a nightmare.
2. #1 goes double if you did anything the least bit questionable in the lead-up to the incident.
3. #1 goes triple if you are too fracking stupid to shut your mouth after the event.

At the same time, an armed person who finds their self in a situation where it appears to be shoot or die, is going to shoot.

So no, I don't see any major changes.... except positive ones, such as greater caution about following suspicious persons and less inclination to blab freely after a shoot. Nobody wants to go thru what Zim has gone thru, even if he is found innocent.

If GZ used an ax, would ax use change? If GZ used Kung Fu, would Kung Fu use change? If GZ used a tire iron, would tire iron use change? It is foolish to assert that one person's use of any particular tool/method to stop an attack would make that tool/method more (or less) popular. Now if 50K such instances occured per year, and made the news, then perhaps it may catch on, but one case is unlikely to "start a trend". ;)

I would hope the "greater caution" would be in effect whether or not he is convicted. I would hope in retrospect even Zimmerman understands that he went one step too far.

Wha[r] will be te effect on gun use if Zimmerman is found not guilty?

There will be one additional gun purchased by Zimmerman, sometime in the future.

I voted "No Change" as the best option presented.

I think people with licenses to carry will realize the awesome responsibility the use of their gun in a public setting represents. Innocent? Guilty? In this particular case, it makes no difference. The guy with the license to carry? His life is ruined.

Yup. What he did was not illegal... but it was not wise. I always tell my students don't go hunting trouble, make it have to come to YOU, and that makes it a lot clearer who was the aggressor.

I badly wanted to vote "tater tots, extra crispy", just because it is such a COOL poll option, like Rootebega... if I'd had a beer yet I definitely would have voted tater tots. Mostly because I want someone to cook me some; I'm tired of cooking all the time.

Naw, they will just realize not to say a damn thing without a lawyer.
And his life wouldn't be ruined.

I vote no change. Most CCW holder such as myself have gone through training on use, and carry, also in my case I was a small arms specialist in the military so I understand fully the responsibility associated with carrying a firearm.

But let's think about what might have been the outcome if Z had not had his gun that night....Could Z have been dead right now instead of TM?

a change that may happen and in my opinion needs to happen (but i admit i have to read it again) is a clean up of the stand your ground law, seemed way to vague to me.

But in general i am totally in favor of castle laws and stand your ground laws, i just want them clear or at least as clear as they can be with out being worthless of course

This is now officially the 'Why does Goshin have to cook all the dayum time??" thread. The only posts allowed will be those that address this topic, or express sympathy to Goshin for having to cook all the dayum time, or offers to cook for Goshin and son because he's such a great guy and deserves a meal he didn't have to cook.

Oh, yeah, wait... I remember now... single father; no woman around. That's why.

Nevermind; carry on.
