Well the evidence is there for all to see.

He has been conditioning his supporters from very early on, that anything, anything at all, doesn't matter what it is, but anything negative about him is false and fake.

And they hath largely believed and when it comes to Muellers investigation, he's already implanted seeds of doubt in his weak minded followers, they won't believe anything it has to say.

“The White House is adopting what one official termed a “shrugged shoulders” strategy for the Mueller findings, calculating that most GOP base voters will believe whatever the president tells them to believe.”

Our Trumpian friends attest to the wisdom of this observation.
And our Muellerian droids will do the say with whatever Big Bob tells then - most likely spinning it into a massive screaming fit and group anguish. Correction - they'll wait until Madcow and her ilk tell them what the party line is.

I think Trump's fate rests in the base. If Mueller comes back with hard evidence of more sinister crimes, then some will leave. Most will stay, but, if his numbers drop below 30%, I think they (the Senate) will move to impeach. That is given two things: Sinister crimes and even worse #'s.

It's that way with any president's supporters or base. Trump, Obama, G.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, G.H.W. Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford and on back. Staunch supporters aren't going to believe anything bad about their guy. Normal SOP. Heck, even after Nixon resigned, half of all Republicans thought he was railroaded out of office by the hatred the democrats had for him.

Avid supporters of any president aren't about to leave him. That is just the way it is. For eight years on this site, quite a lot of Republicans couldn't understand how come those who supported Obama didn't drop him. Same today for a lot of Democrats who expect Trump supporters to desert him. Same old, same old...

I doubt the GOP will ever move to impeach, even at 30%, GOP leaders know their base of complete morons won't forgive them for canning Trump if they don't even believe it in the first place.

This.

The only thing I could see happening is a resignation to get a pardon, because he's almost certainly going to be indicted after his term is over, and a Democratic presidency is damn sure not going to give him one.

That's where the sinister crimes come into play. If the crimes are severe enough, evidence clear enough, how could they not?

It may take massive public outcry. And if they lose the economy scout badge, could be the perfect storm. But, I have no strong prediction to make here either. Trump is too unpredictable.

Mueller isn’t a Democrat. In fact, he’s a Republican, but his role is strictly as investigator and what he says will be in the form of evidentiary findings. Maddow’s impact in the national scheme of things is insignificant, with fewer than 700,000 viewers per show.

Sorry, I don't see the Senate Republicans ever voting to remove Trump from office, no matter the circumstances. They might act all outraged and puff-up their chest, but in the end they'll all smoke the Trump pipe.

OTOH, the Congress not voting to remove a president for his crime sin no way means those crimes are legally forgiven. Congressional trails have no baring on whether the federal government decides to prosecute a president, and it's almost a certainty that SDNY prosecutors have an obligation to pursue an indictment against Trump down the road.

Trump base, sure. Republicans? Not as much, but some, sure. Republicans like me? Not much of a chance of that happening.

Ah, going after the law and the media. You are taking your instructions from Trump well.

I'm afraid that by 2020, those who do not worship Trump will be purged from the Republican party.

Maybe. We'll see. The one thing the Democratic Party needs to understand, however, is that their actions are alienating some of their own membership and a lot of independents, not just the future displaced Republicans like me. They'll probably be larger than the GOP, but not larger than group of independents that will be made up of the historically independent as well as those of us that may find ourselves no longer affiliated with any major party.

Magic number is somewhere between 22 and 27 percent, methinks.
I don't see how any president can stay in office with sustained numbers that bad, because at a rating that low, it starts to chafe with everyone downstream.
Congressional Trumpers have been loyal so far, but it's partly due to being terrified of the consequences if they aren't, consequences from Trump's base. Beyond that, we know that a lot of them have a pretty low opinion of him.

That's a big IF, considering we have not seen any evidence to suggest that.

I would not support Trump if there was evidence he committed a serious crime but so far the only thing I've seen is hysterics. If Mueller has something, it's the best kept secret in the history of the government. Even Roswald wasnt this tightly held of a secret.

Maybe you're just not used to ethics like Mueller's.
That's not meant as a snide insult.
I'm saying that it's been so long that maybe a lot of people forgot what a First Class Grade A G-Man is supposed to be like.

In the old days you heard terms like "leadbottom", "iron-ass", and the like to describe a committed official with airtight ethics.
If they had facial hair, like a mustache, it was regulation size, if they took a dump, it was regulation length, everything was by the book.
Maybe Mueller is one of the last of the old Iron-Ass G-men.

It's maybe thought to be silly to imagine that such people still exist, because maybe we're so jaded after forty something years of agitprop aimed at the government, with anti-government sentiment at an all time high.
We are at apogee right now.
It's fashionable.

I respect how tight lipped he has run the investigation. I didnt think it was possible in today's day and age.

My criticism if I have one would be the appearance that he has assembled a partisan team of investigators and that he may be acting too heavy handed with charging people but until I see his report I'm staying objective.

One thing I think is going to be fair to say about this is that he looked at trump and his campaign as hard as he could. Now we all need to be patient for the results. I personally think we got another year or more to see them.

Independents already outnumber the membership of either party. When people talk about 50/50 split between the parties, I think it's closer to 50/50 between independents and party members.
