Really Native Americans too......wow I didnt know that....

U didn't know that?

So why u think europeans knew tabacco? ( Just as an example )

Do U despite Native Americans?

?

Honestly I can't wait until they deport the entire 11+ million that didn't get their paper work in order before crossing the boarder. I've had my eye on a job selling oranges off the 405 freeway for some time now. Once they're all gone that job is mine. The head hunter from corporate told me on a good day I can bring in over $17...sweet!

Seriously I've never met a Mexican national I didn't like. Well there was that one Polica in Puerto Vallarta, not pleasant. Other then him always have a great time in Mexico and with people from there. I'm headed to Merida tomorrow.

And did you know that Pre-Hispanic cultures in Mexico descended from early Native Americans...

Now here is a sad but true fact.........

The Spanish systematically destroyed virtually all traces of Tenochtitlán and built what would become modern-day Mexico City in its place. Over the centuries, the lake was filled in and all that remains today of the mighty Tenochtitlán is a small excavation in the center of Mexico City known as the Templo Mayor. Pre-Hispanic civilizations were destroyed throughout Mexico (and later South America) and the local people were often forced into slavery. By some accounts, within the first 100 years of Spanish occupation, more than 90% of the indigenous population died from smallpox, measles or slavery in the mines.

I have a comment on this one. In my opinion where you reside has very little to do with your pride. Your pride comes from your heart. You can be Mexican but live in Bulgaria, will you call yourself a Mexican-Bulgarian? I'm not saying I have more pride for my nation in relation to everybody else on earth, but I can't see me calling myself South-African-American, or South-African-German. It makes no sense to me... Why incorporate a country's name in order to validate your existence and acceptance there?

I think some do it in part to honor their current residence...and in part to honor their homeland...

I only consider Mexican-Americans(or Texanos?) kids with mexican parents who were born in the U.S. other then that you're just mexican.

Okay, I'm confused about the cultural identity names. Like, why do we call blacks African-Americans? Or like hispanics Mexican-Americans?? Aren't they all just Americans? Why am I not referred to as Irish-American? Or better yet, it would be Irish-Scottish-French:)3oops:)-American.

I'm proud to be an english-irish-scottish-italian-german american! Hmmmm .... unwieldy - think I'll just make that american!

George Farragut (Spaniard in US Navy)

I don't know who this is, but readers should not confuse him with David Glasgow Farragut, commander-in-chief of the U.S. Navy during the American Civil War, famous for saying at the Battle of Mobile Bay, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"

Wow, you guys just get screwed no matter where you go.

Yep, some of us match that description as well. Is that a problem?
I most definetely have a problem with it if that is what is defined as American culture.

You are misinterpreting his words to suit your need. If I look at your immigration, I won't be too worried abt white-white-white-white and more white becoming the American culture.

I'm not saying it is nor is becoming american culture. I'm saying those whom claim it to be american culture are a big problem. They are also the ones that I have issue with.
The claim that traditional european cultural practices are what it means to be American?
No, that is not what american culture is about. American culture is about the land of the free. The place where ppl are free to practice any cultural, religious, ethnic, thought, expression and so on.
In otherwords, defining marriage btw man and woman is un-american, denying women the freedom to choose what to do with thier bodies is unamerican, denying individuals based on race certain privaledges is unamerican, making religious laws is unamerican, ect ect ect.

Pacridge said:
How can you say it's not part of the "American Culture?"
I'm hardly arguing it isn't a part of american culture at all, I'm arguing that it is not definitive of what american culture is about. You put it perfectly, it's a part of american culture.
However not assimilating that part is by no means saying that an immigrant has not assimilated into american culture.
