So I went to Pride yesterday, and I'd like to report my findings.

The bathrooms at Trafalgar Square, where the main stage and gathering was, are side-by-side, and they have the little boy and girl signs we all know, but for the purposes of Pride, they basically just threw it out the window and declared them both to be gender neutral.

So I went to the bathroom. The first time I just reflexively got in the "girl" side of the line. But next time, I got in the boys because it was moving faster.

In that line was me, several other ladies who were much more femme than I am, many men, some queer people of indeterminate gender, you get the picture.

Urinals to the left, stalls to the right, sinks in the middle. Yup, I could see the boys and and anyone else with a penis peeing. Well, their backs anyway.

Guess what?

Absolutely nothing happened and absolutely no one cared. All day.

All day, nothing happened and no one cared. No one attacked the ladies in the stalls (or at the urinals). There weren't many kids in attendance, but the one I saw in line seemed perfectly happy, and was also amazingly un-molested. People were not butt ****ing each other at the urinals. Sodom and Gomorrah did not descent upon London.

Girls and boys chatted casually in line, with friends and strangers alike. People who ****ed gender so brutally that I have no clue what sex they were laughing with people who were so flamboyantly gendered that their tail feathers barely fit through the door.

The only thing that happened to me is that someone told me they liked my rainbow cat ears.

And nothing happened and no one cared.

Just thought I'd update the chicken littles that, somehow, as if by magic, the apocalypse does not occur when bathrooms are not gendered. We all survived. That one drunk chick probably has a headache today, but that is the closest thing to a casualty that we witnessed.

I know, right? Amazing.

Can someone remind me why this is supposedly such a problem?

No idea. So who is more to blame-NC for passing a law that probably would have been ignored or the federal government for passing a law that will be ignored and wasn't needed? Society will continue to do what it did in the past and handle it without any governmental intervention.

The problem is that some people need demarcation in their lives. It drives me mad to see women queuing for ages when there are perfectly good men's cubicles available less than a couple of yards away!

I think that all toilet signs should be a square with a black line at one end, a white line at the other and every shade of grey in between them.

That's because British people can't have anal sex; the sticks up their ass get in the way.

Ah, the trick is to remove the stick, without the stick we come ready stretched.

Well, yes and no. The push for legal rights is born of necessity. Not all trans people "pass" and they are at a high risk of assault and harassment when using the bathroom, if they are either refused entry to their assigned sex bathroom, or recognized as trans once they're in it.

That's why this has come up. It is a safety issue. And unfortunately, people refuse to just be decent and leave trans people alone when they're just trying to pee, thus why they're trying to gain legal protection. Society isn't leaving them alone.

I'd be cool with just going gender neutral on bathrooms. I don't see the issue with that, really.

Yeah. But I don't get why their own presentation isn't enough. I mean, do I suddenly transform into a dude because I went into the men's bathroom? As far as I can tell, I don't look or feel any different.

I'm demarcating myself by how I present, just like everyone else does. I just don't understand that mindset.

Sounds sweet to me!

Because only achromatic people are civilized enough to use indoor plumbing.

It's a more moody and sometimes romantic way to live, you've seen all those old movies haven't you.

Clearly. Chromatic people are destroying the fabric of our societies with all their weird wavelengths. It's against nature.

We all demarcate, I know that I do it as well so I'm not trying to say that I adhere to what I say (I confess to some hypocrisy). I guess we should all strive as best we can to stop doing it and try to just relax a bit.

I've heard a few horror stories about Brits who tried removing their own sticks before. Let's just say that septic shock and splinters are a bad combination.

You have to do it carefully, slowly and in a hermetically sealed room; You end up with more **** flying around than a Tory conference.

PS, a tapered stick is the best idea so it doesn't snap shut :)

The seminar I was at this past week was in a hotel with a casino. After classes and dinner I decided to play some cards and have a few beers. I had been to the restroom the night before but this night I'd had a few extra beers and turned right one door early. As I stood there wondering what the hotel had done with the urinals I heard a flush. That snapped me back to reality and I made a hasty exit. One of the guys I was playing with was in the men's room and burst out laughing as I came in because he saw what I did.

Truth be told I'm still a little traumatized but I think I'll live[emoji3]

I've been to big events many times in my life. People have jumbled up the washroom lines accordingly, even in the 80's. Nobody cares.

This was a non-issue until big babies started crying about it.

Oh, that's nothing. One time at a water park (I was about 15 at the time), I had to go to the restroom so badly, my mind didn't even bother contemplating the fact that there wasn't a single urinal in the men's room. After I washed my hands and turned to head out, a woman walked in and locked eyes with me. We paused for a second or two, saying nothing to each other. Then, we both turned to look at the sign on the door.

It was the women's room.

I don't know how to describe the sound I made. I think it would be spelled something like "GEAAGH!" And with that sound punctuating my first embarrassed step, I quickly walked out of the room, trying to get out as quickly as I could while also trying not to draw any undue attention to myself. I didn't succed at either one of those goals, and ended up awkwardly shuffling out.

The moral of the story? The pool is a gender-neutral alternative to a regular restroom, and should be taken advantage of.

Ok but, no floaters please.

Personally I am largely indifferent to who uses what bathroom.

Where I have issues is when government mandates that a MTF transgender who is PRE-OP must be allowed to shower and change in the girl's locker room in high school, despite still being equipped with a penis.

Gotta tell ya, lots of people don't like that much.

There is such a thing as modesty that many if not most Americans feel. It is part of them. And it is their inate and cultural sense that men and women are different. So many if not most women really prefer to clean up, dress, or tend to other more private matters without men looking on. And I think many if not most men really prefer to take care of most bodily functions without women looking on. Otherwise it just feels wrong whether or not anybody is molested or intentionally made to feel uncomfortable.

The best solution for me is to have a ladies room, a men's room, and a unisex room in between that anybody can use. On the theory that most women would choose the ladies' room--I would and I am no homophobic prude--and most men would use the men's room, that would take care of everybody's needs without embarrassing or making anybody uncomfortable.

Lots of people are living in lala land apparently because that never happens. Most underage trans students end up going to a third option, like a private washroom, for themselves. Do you know how hard it is to be a trans adolescent? A diagnosed one?

Don't forget that this all started over public washrooms, not public showers, not high school students. Don't change the goal posts.

When you gotta pee you gotta pee. Form a single line and take the next available facility. Problem solved.
In your case, you did your try out at an event where, more or less, like minded people gathered.
Not sure if you would be reporting the same results had you gone to some event frequented by more traditionally minded people.
Let me say this once more, and please don't disregard my first paragraph. No one cares who pees where. No one expects anything sinister to happen in gender neutral bathrooms, but mixed bathrooms make it a bit easier for those who have sinister motives regardless of rules.

Don't forget the President of the United States commanded the Department of Education, and Justice Department to issue a letter directing public SCHOOLS to allow transgender bathrooms and more.

Feds issue guidance on transgender bathroom acess in schools - CNNPolitics.com

This latest guidance for schools goes beyond the bathroom issue, touching upon privacy rights, education records and sex-segregated athletics, all but guaranteeing transgender students the right to identify in school as they choose.

"There is no room in our schools for discrimination of any kind, including discrimination against transgender students on the basis of their sex," Attorney General Loretta Lynch said. "This guidance gives administrators, teachers and parents the tools they need to protect transgender students from peer harassment and to identify and address unjust school policies."
