'We Have The Votes': The Senate Will Act This Week To Codify Same-Sex Marriage

Marriage - gay or straight - is not a federal right to regulate.
It's up to the States, per the Constitution.
Equal protection IS a federal responsibility according to the constitution. States cannot override it.

Equal protection is not the same as mandating rights not afford to the federal government.
Marriage is up to the States to decide. There is no right to marriage in the Constitution.
The fact we even allow the federal government to interfere in these matters is vile.

There is no right to not having your phone tapped without a warrant in the constitution.

yeah, about that. There's a lot of what the constutiton says that we do not follow. You just just to deal with that.

Correct - which is why it's up to the States.
Currently, there are 10 States which have a right to privacy in their Constitution:

Not after the bill passes the Senate and is signed by the President. Marriage is a right. Someone here already looked up a SC case proving that its a right. You may not discriminate against minorities when it comes to legislating that right.

The U.S. Supreme Court first applied this standard to marriage in Loving v. Virginia in 1967 when it struck down a Virginia law banning interracial marriage. Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote for the majority:

How often did it come up in those 50 years? Sorry "MAGA judges" rule on the law rather than "feel good slogans".

No they rule on their ideology.

Which is why they’ve put the old right wing rant about “activist judges” into a cocked hat.

Activists on the Robert’s court have gutted campaign finance reform, the Voting Rights Act, Roe v Wade and a while variety of laws designed to protect workers.

The most conservative member is now using his position to try and block investigations into his wife’s role in the trump insurrection plot. This after trying to derail investigations into trump’s documents scandal.

That’s what “MAGA” judges do.

Doing the right thing means switching parties like Charlie Crist did and making exactly the same public comment: "Thank God for Joe Biden." No MAGA Republicans are ever going to follow suit.
They still go with the stupid democrat plantation myth that not even the alt-reich buys for a second. They cant admit the southern strategy happened even though we have a whole list of dixiecrats who switched over and can show how it happened. The thing about the GOP is it is fundamentally opposed to changing or correcting itself. It was built up by its relationship with talk radio and fox news and now fox news owns it. In order for there to be change for the better it has to go the way of the whigs.

If alt-reichers have more sense than republicans to say black people are voting their own interests, that should tell ya something.

Nope. See above: Loving v Virginia.
Soon, hopefully, SSM will be codified into law and it will not be up to the states at all.

It is what I would like to see. But the current SC might go the states rights route

Hope there will be enough votes in the house.

The Senate is expected to vote this week on legislation to codify same-sex marriage and, more importantly, the bill has enough GOP support to pass, HuffPost has learned. “We have the votes,” a source close to negotiations confirmed Monday.
A bipartisan group of senators has been trying for months to pass a marriage equality bill to protect same-sex and interracial relationships. The House passed its own legislation in July, but that proposal stalled in the Senate, where some Republicans raised concerns that it would stifle religious liberty.

This is a big "so what."

By mail in ballots with no requirement of a witness for the signature, got an issue get a tissue. By turning off cameras for hours while they cheated in Nevada.
Nauseating, embarrassing cult lies.

Thiis is why MY ideal SCOTUS would be neither Left nor Right. It would have 3 loony Lefties, 3 rabid Righties, and 3 LIBERTARIANS to keep Either group of lunatics from seizing control.
So 6 loonie righties??

It's a basic human right that should be federal law. And will be.

They might...but it would create chaos. Gay couples might go out of state to get married...then would their marriage be recognized in their home state? What about married gay couples moving to another state where the bigots won't allow it? And what about the thousands (if not millions) of gay couples who are already married? Are they suddenly not married?
The SC could disrupt all that, but I really don't think they want to go there-except Thomas, who is a bigot.

Like I said, keep those eyes shut so you do not see the truth, 2020 and 2022 midterms, yes they definitely cheated.
That's nice. Prove it!
According to you, and the Scientists paid to say that, I am sure they are not considered citizens.
Scientists do not say that. The law says that!
According to the One who counts most they are Human beings.
Who cares?
To consider them less, is ghoulish, and inhumane.
Emotional rhetoric.
Americans do not care about sexual perversion that is true mostly,
Because it's not really an issue.
they also have been browbeaten into submission on the Abortion debate, it is sad.
Really? Then why does the debate continue after decades?
I for one refuse to say that homosexuality is normal or that baby killing should be legal.
That you are wrong and probably overly emotional.
Yes I know you do not care.
At least you are correct on that.
There are issue that ae reduced to right and wrong for me these are two of them
Sounds like a you problem.
Keep your eyes shut, it will be better for you not to see the truth.
So no actual proof, eh?
Nope so why isn't the husbands right protected?
Which "right" are you referring?
and protecting all citizens even those in the womb.
The unborn are not yet citizens or personas. It is not possible to "protect" the unborn and the rights and autonomy of the pregnant woman at the same time.
