Vladimir Putin has warned the US against launching military action in Syria, stating that Russia has "plans" on how it would react if such a scenario unfolded.

The Russian president's comments came as Barack Obama for the first time portrayed his plans for US military action as part of a broader strategy to topple Bashar al-Assad, as the White House's campaign to win over sceptics in Congress gained momentum.

In an interview with Associated Press and Russia's state Channel 1 television, Putin said it was too early to talk about what Russia would do if the US attacked Syria but added: "We have our ideas about what we will do and how we will do it in case the situation develops toward the use of force or otherwise. We have our plans."

Any plan Borsht Boi has better involve USA defaulting on $200 billion owed to Russia and better involve Russia being thrown instantly into financial chaos. The moment he even looks at USA funny is the moment we keep the money and watch him experience a depression the likes of which Russia has never seen. No way he can make that up in arms sales in the Middle East.

Obama's plan is to fire a shot across the bow? That's a plan?

 "he has his plans"?

Russia is not going to risk a shooting war with the U.S. over Syria. Bet your life savings on it. He's trying to sound menacing when what he means is "we would continue to do what we have been doing - supplying the Assad regime generally as best as we can given the circumstances.

I don't believe the US would risk a shooting war with Russia either. But then Russia didn't say anything about a shooting war.

Hey Vlad. Cold War is over. We won. Get over it. The last thing you do is threaten a dysfunctional family and give them a reason to bring their dysfunction against you. But if you lived in America you would know that.

As others said...Russia needs the money we owe them. As much as that looks like they have us by the balls...it is the other way around. Russia is a backwards and corrupt government filled with organized crime and all kinds of other crap. That money is very important, and KGB boy wonder Putin knows that.

You describe the US government perfectly. Want to debate that?? And, GHWBush was a CIA wonder boy, too. And the covert and nasty work they have performed around the world is largely no secret. But I know I know USA good, Russia bad, that meme is perennial.

Simple question. Would you rather live in a world where the US plays a leading role in acceptable norms, or one where Russia is allowed to further their own hegemony?

Do you really want to debate the levels of corruption between Russia and the United States? Russia a place where citizens put dashboard cameras in their cars to protect them from corrupt police, and our police put then in their cars to protect them against civilians?

Or would you rather debate the roles and history of HW Bush vs hard liner KGB Putin? Because I don't think you would be happy to find the hooliganism that is a reoccurring theme in Putin's history.

See you claim that I am spouting a meme, but all my "meme" crap is backed in a hard dose of reality: Russia is not the nicest "1st world" nation to be a citizen in. You are spouting the classic left wing, non-American "meme" that "Americans are capitalist, imperialist, lying, dirty pigs who are dirty and corrupt, despite their track record of stopping their own corruption and standing up for things like humans rights."

Actually. That brings me to another point. Would you like to compare standard of living and human rights in the 2 nations?

Listen slick. You might have a case when you debate relatively homogenous societies like Western Europe, but you discussing a place like Russia as "comparable" in corruption to the United States is HILARIOUSLY naive.

Are you kidding me?!?! The US provided chemical weapons to Iraq and encouraged their use. Is that not against "acceptable norms" and hegemony-Russia!!!! Wth are you talking about. Did you type that with a straight face or was your tongue stuck in your cheek? Because there's a lot of fingers pointing back on that one.

This is a world post 70-80 million European casualties from 2 World Wars, and where nations have the military capability to end life as we know it on this planet. Franz Ferdinands won't result in Global annihilation. People would start killing their own governments before that would happen. Hell they would let the retards in the Mis East kill each other off before that happens. Now is probably a good time to but oil stock though. A shortage is probably about to come about.

Got under your skin on that one. Like pulling the curtain back on the Wizard of Oz! Shinning a light on a burglar. Russia's full of corruption. Who would deny that? But so is the United States. The CIA has been going around the world undermining governments for decades, documented atrocities by our government. We're not quite as bad as Russia so were good. Dashboard cameras are finding their way in vehicles here too, and they will be capturing plenty of police abuse here. We stand up for human rights ONLY when it's in the interest of the MIC/corporate America. Otherwise we turn a deaf ear. Slick, hahahahahaha

Just out of curiosity: How do you suppose a country can default specifically on the tiny portion of its sovereign debt held by a specific party?

Switzerland, Brazil, Japan, our own pension plans, etc are loaded with US bonds. A default would create a financial earthquake of such magnitude that nobody will remember who Putin is, or what's up in Syria.

P.S. Borsht is Ukrainian, not Russian.

I certainly am not arguing American hypocrisy on the issue. But at the same time, I also don't want to cede any moral authority to Russia on the matter either. Just because some think we should be going around being the world's police at great cost to us, doesn't mean that we should...

Oh please.... Here we go! Look, if you want to take the stand that America should act upon every humanitarian atrocity, then why are we not in N. Korea? Why are we not in Sierra Leone? The Congo?

We should only act when it is in our interests to act. You don't think that is what the rest of the world is doing here?

How about we drill, and ramp up our own, and cut SA out? I mean, we only get 19% from them anyway....Besides, can't we just fire up our windmill powered cars yet?

I think Cuba has what you're looking for, although you may not like the rest of the condition of life there.

We respond to all human rights abuses, IF we claim its because human rights are being abused, or we respond to no human rights abuses. As to what's in " our interests", that's so ambiguous, "US interests" abroad are rarely you're and my interests. I'm sorry, I categorically disagree with you that we should attack countries to exploit natural resources or keep the MIC employed or ANY other reason than to thwart an imminent attack or repel an actual one. Picking and choosing on any other basis doesn't work for some of us.

Under my skin? PAAALEASE. You sound like every naive hippy college kid I went to University with. You so desperately want America to be the "bad guys" that you can just excuse the behavior of a government that willfully violates human rights and Putin's crackdown on freedom of speech and assembly.

The United States isn't "barely" better. It is light years better. Free speech and free assembly are tolerated here. Russia ranks 102nd in the Economists "freedom" poll where the United States lands a respectable 10th. Would you care to counter that? The fact that you think that is even debatable lets me know that you are a bias left winger and makes me wonder what country you hail from, and where you get your facts on human rights.

I'm not claiming America is perfect, nor am I denying historical events. I will not, however, accept the claims of someone who thinks the United States and RUSSIA are comparable in human rights. That is bogus and only someone with a political agenda would make that claim. No rational and informed adult would, and that is for sure.
