Our politicians have once again decided that if you are a gov worker during this gov shut down you are on paid vacation and you will get reimbursed for this time off. If you are a private employee who has been laid off like all the workers who depend on the Grand Canyon being open you are SOL. What we are getting here is a system where gov workers make more money, have better benefits and in general are treated as if they are superior to private industry workers. We get more like the old Soviet Union every day.

"With much of the federal government shut down for the fifth day, Congress has its hands full trying to reach an agreement on reopening the government, but one brief spot of compromise emerged on Saturday, when a broad bipartisan majority in the House of Representatives passed a bill granting back pay to federal employees who have been furloughed during the shutdown.

Feel free to try.

Let's start by pointing out the obvious.

The soviet union and every "communist" system that followed was a one party system usually directly controlled by one person, or a small council of people (politburo)

Not once was there every a "government shutdown" in the soviet union or any other communist country EVER because an opposing point of view, from another section of government, from a different party.

Let's start there.

The point you are missing is that in the Soviet Union if you were a party member you were above the masses and got special treatment. Now in the USA you are above the masses and get special treatment if you are a gov employee. See the similarities?

Once again.

You run into a problem.

The US government is not a one party system.

And a requirement for working, or being part of government is not that someone be a member of a particular party (as it is in most communist nations that feature the one party system)

Your comparison loses again.

Badly.

Come back when you want to play with the big boys.

I'll continue with the fact that nothing in the current fiscal/political discussion remotely resembles communism. Despite the right-wing rhetoric, the government is not actually "taking over healthcare" in the sense of medical care now being a government-run operation. My doctor? Still an employee of a private business. The companies that supply his gear? Still private businesses. My health insurance company? Still a private business.

Sawyers problem is the same as a lot of low-information right-wingers these days. The people who feed their opinions to them have given them the impression that Communism, Fascism, Marxism, and Socialism are just general terms for "BAD THING." Rather than pretty specific political ideologies that do not even remotely resemble the views of the modern Democratic party. Probably my favorite quote on this board recently was one guy declaring that Communists and Muslims were political soul mates, or something along those lines. You can't make this **** up!

So in your opinion gov employees deserve to be reimbursed for the gov shut down but private employees that got laid off due to the gov shut down can just go suck an egg. I think I may be talking to a gov employee here.

House approves back pay for furloughed workers as shutdown continues - CBS News

I'm glad you posted this. I completely agree. Baloney.

I just so happen to be a private employee that conducts his business on federal land.

I see you`re not sticking with your idiotic comparison.

That`s all I ask.

So why in your opinion should gov employees be reimbursed for the shut down while private employees are left twisting in the wind?

Because I wouldn't be working while they would.

The blame for which would be aimed squarely at the extremists that caused it in the first place.

Gov workers are not working either but they will be reimbursed. The gov employees at the Grand Canyon are having a grand paid vacation. You keep dodging the question. Why is this right? Why do they get paid but the hotel maids that are laid off are out of luck?

Because there's a difference between being laid off and being furloughed...

This is so ignorant I can`t even BEGIN to explain how wrong it is.

Right, you cant.
Gov workers were sent home supposedly we dont have any money to run the government, yet once the shut down is over. They will get back pay. Who is going to back pay the businesses that are suffering because of this?

Why in your opinion is this equivalent to communism?
