Washington Dem socialist congressional candidate calls for breaking into empty homes/raising Min. Wage to $30

I do think that the sheer number of empty homes (that stay empty year after year) is something that should be addressed through tax structures (perhaps an additional 1-2% tacked onto property taxes for each home that is unoccupied for 12 months that is cumulative if more than one home is owned in this state), I don't think breaking into them and squatting is the best way to approach the issue.
There’s really not many empty homes in the United States, and usually when there’s “empty homes” then one of three things are happening

1) it’s a vacation/recreational property like a lake house in the Midwest or canal house or hunting cabin, usually located in a remote or distant location from where there’s a demand for permanent housing
2) it’s an inherited property of some kind with sentimental value to the owner or which is not in condition to sell
3) it’s a property that the owner can’t sell because it’s distressed and a mortgage buyer can’t get a loan for, or the owner is retired, in nursing home, etc and It’s not a habitable unit.

In some countries there are empty housing units, this is notorious in Vancouver BC or London where there’s lots of condos owned by foreigners in those big towers that aren’t being sold because the real purpose is to store money of people who are possible disloyal to their own countries and need a crash pad or at the very least an asset their government can’t regulate.

In America it’s a far bigger problem that investment funds are buying houses as a long term asset to rent, this is a practice that should be made illegal.

According to this 10% are in Detroit

She reminds me of those defund-the-cops advocates who immediately call 911 when they are suddenly in trouble.

If her house were ever empty for any reason and it was broken into and occupied, she would have a meltdown the likes of which have never been seen before.

True, but those houses aren’t vacant because evil landlords are hoarding the homes to make housing too expensive. They’re vacant because Detroit’s population has crashed, it was over 2 million people at its peak and now it’s smaller then Seattle (<700,000). The city of Detroit has been bulldozing entire blocks because the houses were unoccupied and were nuisance properties, during the last recession they were shutting off streetlights because they couldn’t pay bills.

This is a neighborhood like this, this used to be all houses and now the majority of houses have been bulldozed. The green space is all deurbanized former residences

What is funny to me a few years ago they found black bears roaming in the Detroit hood, it's so empty

CD-6; no Repubs running; incumbent DEM will win easily; Parson has ZERO chance of winning;

OP has a history of broad swathing smears on DEMs
His threads should embarrass him; but they don't.

Unfortunately, no, there isn't.

There is absolutely no benefit to workers, businesses, or consumers for making it illegal to work below some arbitrary number. The only beneficiaries of a price floor on wages are unions and firms which don't use low skilled workers. That's why the richest man in the world supports a $15 minimum wage.

If a child chooses to work for so little money they have to prostitute themselves to not starve, that’s just the free market at work, right?

Adverse possession is a thing not only in WA but in a bunch of states.
That said, are you anxious that all Dems reflexively embrace this idea?
Sounds like it.
Fox sure wants you to think that, don't they?
Well...that's incorrect all the way around.

No i'm not anxious that all Dems embrace this. And Fox News doesn't say it either...at least in the article. They do however mention she has a small group of SC wannabes, a small group of nuts that obviously don't represent the whole party.

It is a fact that since the beginning of time, kids in poor families have had to work. It is only when countries embrace capitalism and become wealthy do children not have to work anymore. When do gooders such as yourself outlaw child labor in poor countries, the kids end up even worse off. Since they can't legally work, they end up dealing drugs or becoming prostitutes.

I despise orgnanized squatter groups.
Sovereign citizens are fond of that tactic and it cost us two thousand bucks to driver sov/cit squatters from OUR first home which we rented out for two years.
The sov/cit tenant moved in and never paid anything beyond first/last/sec dep and I kept wondering if I would wind up in a confrontation with them.
But finally, after six months, we got them out and our attorney said we were lucky, that it might have taken YEARS.
I've read those horror stories too. Those people suck.

Irony meters just exploded!

Or we could have taxes support strong social welfare networks and then kids from poor families wouldn’t have to work. But taking money from the uberwealthy is totally unacceptable. Better those kids work in dangerous factories with zero regulations or become child prostitutes, right?

Someone should really inform this chick on trespassing laws. As well as basic economics, where a $30 MW would shutter small businesses already suffering from the COVID shutdowns.

Not only is she a dunce on economics, but her break-in advocating brings to mind those Sovereign Citizen jerkoffs.
No surprise her opponent in ‘20 beat her by more than 30 points.

She's a bit nutty I'd say. Her website looks like it was designed by a 10 year old on an iPod.

She would be thrilled for a million people to break into private homes, ransack them, shit on the carpets, and destroy the property.

She would also advocate for no prosecution and no repayment for damages.

The entire point of socialism is to either confiscate or destroy what people have worked for and give to those who refuse to work.

These people are fools.
Yes all those positions you invented sure sound terrible.

Just understand this: Sometimes large organized groups of people get overtaken by bullshit, sometimes they don't.
It is impossible for Dems to say that they've never embraced a fringe idea. They have. This time around, it ain't us claiming the election was stolen and that they have a right to overturn an election by force.
This time it's not us claiming that people are running child sex operations in a pizza parlor, this time it's not us acting as some fifth column great replacement.

When there's fringe violence, it's fringe violence.

When it's 147 people in Congress endorsing the plan, it's not fringe anymore.
When it's the people at the very top helping, it's not fringe anymore.
When it's a major party holding a planning session and learning at the knee of a crypto-fascist dictator, it's not fringe anymore.

Down the road it might happen, we might see Dems saying and doing stupid shit in large numbers, getting violent with the US government and trying to overturn the will of the people.
But it's not us this time around.

If you say you don't support this, I take your word for it, but it doesn't change the fact that it's now mainstream in one party.

Sadly in the real world, 100x is low balling it. It is more often closer to 350x what workers make, or 35,000% more than their workers.

Edit; an interesting observation, but many worker cooperatives that vote on top executive pay often arrive at 20:1 pay rates to the lowest paid worker, which happened to align with your gut feeling about what is "about right".
Obviously I support worker cooperatives and employee owned businesses. I'm just that kind of socialist.

In her defense minimum wage should be $30 an hour in cities like New York, San Francisco, Chicago... states like South Carolina $7.25 is fine no one pays $7.25 in manufacturing even at McDonald's
I take it you still dont understand yet that when minimum wages go up, so do all the costs...and that minimum wage increase is absorbed.

Minimum wage jobs are not careers. They arent meant to provide people a living. You arent supposed to aspire to get off the salad prep station and one day be able to man the fryers.

Some of those work cooperatives work on a small scale

This is a small list of them.

I am a member of an organic co-op market and I shop at a chain of grocery stores that is owned by their employees. I buy King Arthur flour for that reasion, depsite the fact that it is very good product and is often priced a little highher than national brands.

No it wouldn't what would save small companies is say no CEO can make a 100 times more then his lowest payed worker, he gets a raise the lowest payed worker gets a raise.

(This is a liberal idea I read about on the west coast)
Not a bad idea, except big corporation would get around it by hiring employees through staffing agencies and calling them subcontractors.
