Was the Turkish coup staged/encouraged by President Erdogan in some way?

Truth is, it was extremely unprofessionally done. It helps Erdogan considerably and was obviously planned for if not in particular then generically. Nobody else seems to profit. But it is easily possible that the Turkish military was incompetent plain and simple.
I think what happened was his security/intelligence forces found out about a lower level coup in the military. They then decided to secretly fund /encourage it - knowing it would fail horribly. Then Erdogan would use this as the excuse he needs to purge military/political/judiciary or all those he did not like.
I cannot proof this, or course.
But the circumstantial evidence is awfully strong, imo. He gains a TON from this joke of a coup attempt.
I keep thinking of the Nazi Germany Reichstag fire.
