According to an inside source, Bush did declassify the National Intelligence Estimate, but did not authorize any member of the administration to leak information to the press. This brings us to 2 conclusions:

Either Libby is lying to save himself, or Cheney got Libby to leak the information as part of a petty vendetta against Joseph Wilson. In either case, Bush himself is off the hook.

Bush himself seems quite angry at Cheney right now, and this might explain the reason he is keeping Cheney out of his inner circle now. If Cheney is involved, I predict that he will be leaving office right after the midterm elections. This would serve 2 purposes - To get rid of a rogue, and also to groom the next GOP presidential candidate.

Hmm, I'm not sure (but I don't know) if there is any merit to the whole Cheney set up Bush thing. I do however think that swaping VP's after the mid term elections would be an excelent idea (assuming you wanted another rep Pres) because they would then be able to tout that the new VP has experience in the office come 2008.

Yes, I admit there is a rawstory article. You posted it, so fo course there is a story. Now, what about my question? Don't you find it curious that they are, once again, going with unnamed "inside sources"? Doesn't that ever give you pause?

It is an interesting possibility. The thought had occurred to me that Cheney got Libby to leak the information by saying the GWB had approved it when he actually hadn't. For a long time I have believed that GWB is just a figurehead and that the real demons of this administration are Cheney/Rove/Rumsfield.

The way I see it: Either GWB knowingly mislead the American public

Well through executive order 13292 Cheney is himself allowed to declassify and desseminate information without going through Bush first.

I remember plenty of scepticism in the lead up to our war on terror. Thankfully our president was commited to the worthy cause and still is.
