Was it really necessary?

I don't think the bolded is necessarily the case. I'd much rather have a nice guy who was broke, than a rich one who was an asshole. I wouldn't want one who wanted to freeload off of me, but as long as he's working and contributing, wealth isn't an issue.

That is excellent for you, and you're right in that you never know what the future will bring. I expected to be married into my golden years, but it didn't happen that way.
